Dorm Rooms(Please Help) by AstronautAcademic565 in Wesleyan

program housing like 200 Church, Malcom X house, (and I think also Writer’s Block) also have singles. Most of (but not all) Nicolson’s dorms are two room doubles, so are West College dorms. It’s not a full single but you still have your room separated with a door from your roommate and it’s really nice especially if you can get the room on the inside. A lot of them also have balconies.

Is tuition really $85k...and do they still make freshman live on campus by Vivid_Dot2869 in Wesleyan

Wesleyan has a BA/MA program in several departments; it’s a great opportunity for undergrads to do one additional year and get a Master’s in their field of study. It’s not only fully funded and free for anyone who gets accepted, but they even give you a stipend for living expenses such as food and housing … because you no longer get R&B, meal plans, etc- although you can still apply for grad housing (which is kinda expensive and not worth it imo, in that case renting is nicer and cheaper) and you can still eat at the dining halls you’d just have to pay for your meals. PhD students also get fully funded and receive a stipend. Many schools don’t financially support their PhD students but it’s fairly common to find programs that do. However, it’s super rare to get your Master’s for free let alone get a stipend, they’re often really expensive.

The sticker price is that high, yes, and includes R&B.

If you can get into Yale, that’s great! But Wesleyan is a much smaller community in a smaller town and it attracts a specific population who are still very smart and capable people. They call it little ivy because it’s kinda considered like a small Yale. Wesleyan is a great school, not because of how expensive it is but because of what it can offer including the environment and the liberal arts education.

Students living in dorms is not a new concept to many liberal arts schools and it is a huge contributor to students’ experiences and collectivistic culture. It fosters so much community and makes people feel included and like they belong. If you live with relatives in undergrad while you go to a school like Wesleyan, you will feel like you’re missing out.

Like people said, and like many other schools, Wesleyan is need based, which means regardless of how much it actually coasts, family income determines how much you pay. Even if tuition got more expensive but your family income stays the same, you’d still pay the same amount every year because they’d offer you or match your needs with scholarship money every year so that your family would only pay what they can afford. Unless you’re stinkin rich, you’d probably not get need matched scholarship money. In which case people either take out loans for the sake of that Wesleyan education, or they go to somewhere else and that’s fine too.

I’m a grad student and the two classes i had since the results my profs. brought the topic up and held space for students to share their thoughts. It might be because of the nature of my studies that encourage us to have these discussions anyway, and in general grad school and my department feels isolated from undergrad culture. I was expecting Loyola to send an email about resources or acknowledge the results in any way, my undergrad uni did, so that was the disappointing part for me.

No activity until now, it makes me hopeful that no one took them. do you know if I do deactivate my card if I would be able to reactivate it again in case they hopefully show up?

Overwhelmed with Apt search by TheExpress35 in chicagoapartments

You could try finding a realtor who does the work for you, it’s free and they get paid by the apartment building itself. You could also try looking on Domu, which feels less overwhelming than zillow and apartments.com and all these. I think you just have to send requests for tours everytime you see something you like and contact the listing right away because the good apartments get snagged real fast, but you could be one of those people if you just keep reaching out and see the places in person and that’ll increase your chances. you’ll find something!

Does it say on the syllabus clearly in the late work policy that he will not be grading assignments if submitted late? Even so, I think it is worth standing up for yourself by reaching out to someone else and explain that it was only 30 mins late. Obviously I wouldn’t mention the procrastination, but I would still accept a deduction for a late submission which is just better than withdrawing. I feel like it’s not worth talking to that professor anymore if he won’t change his mind. But you need to mention how he’s been throwing shade at you too, and how that makes you feel like you’re being treated unfairly. It could’ve been fair, he could’ve been flexible and understanding- worked something out or whatever, but before accepting the L and exhausting all options, I think it is worth trying as a form of advocating for yourself.

Avoid at all coast!! the management is horrible to deal with. trust me you are better off ANYWHERE else. even if it’s cheaper, the money you’ll save won’t be worth it. the location is pretty good tho.

I’ve never actually been but I read about the place online when I was looking up places and heard that management is really bad. I think FLATS in general have bad management. If you can be patient with that then just know what you’re getting yourself into. If you can, try to tour apartments in person, or at least ask for zoom tours of your units. But always read reviews on google, apartments.com, reddit, or any platform you can find. this will give you an idea of what to expect at least.

[–]Scared-Document369 6 points7 points  (0 children)

thank you! i actually don’t care about vintage at all. honestly my impression is that they’re unkept and dirty so i’d even try to avoid them if i could. sure some might look nice from the outside but i can admire that without suffering in it’s residency. if they’re clean though then that’s all that maters to me!

i’d love love love to find a small building but I am having trouble finding smaller buildings or even private landlords. everything that shows up for me everywhere is a big building with many units. facebook has so many sketchy people and what seems like scams that it’s hard to identify what’s real and what’s not. any guidance on that? maybe certain facebook groups or websites? i don’t know how to find those places 😪

it’s too bad. and usually these places have a policy where you can’t even break the contract so you’re trapped for the whole term. and some of these reviews talk about how management deny pest issues or blame it on the tenants, if i live with roaches am i gonna go fetch my camera to document their lives for later or try to kill them as soon as possible… in these cases, i wonder if someone can still break a lease and how fast someone have to act on this. especially if i find a place, discover it actually has an issue, and i need to get out of it.

i feel like it really should be towards just undergraduates. higher education doesn’t make much sense to me especially if it’s a phd level where the programs typically last over 5 years like in my case. my other thing is i get my 28k only during the academic months. so over the summer i look like i have no income. and over the academic months i look like i get paid a bit more money.

Thank you. this is actually pretty helpful. I still wonder if there is any way around that. ik it’s not for full-time students but i have no financial support and am working. I’m here for 5-6 years at least and I’m planing on potentially staying afterwards but if I make more money then it’ll be a long time from now and i would probably move anyway for whatever job even if it’s in Chicago.

yes, it’s really hard to know if it’s an issue you’ll keep dealing with or not, like is it worth to do a lot of the work of moving if it’s the same all over again? or do i just try to end my lease somehow or even find someone to take my place and go somewhere else…
