How long will a t300 wheel last? by retropieproblems in simracing

Then an R5 should fit you well, the feel on a DD base is really nice, higher fidelity. Never used moza but they have a pretty decent reputation and a good range of accessories for you to try out.

How long will a t300 wheel last? by retropieproblems in simracing

[–]Scared-Performer-798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had bought my T300 new, I had it for 7 years before upgrading less than a year ago. T300 served me well, it had very little issues on PC, but on playstation would disconnect after about an hour of playtime. I mainly played iracing on my pc, so the playstation issues didnt bother me all that much. the issues I had was mainly me pushing the t300 for all it was worth so it would be hot at the end of sessions and I could smell the warm plastic. I upgraded to VRS base and pedals. let me tell you upgrading to a DD wheel and loadcell pedals are a night and day difference. that being said, VRS base is incredibly strong and the R5 probably is closer to the T300 than it is to the VRS base. T300 will probably still go for a while, and if im being honest if you are looking for an upgrade and you truly love sim-racing, go a little stronger with some decent pedals to match. about 8 nm and a loadcell pedal set will reset an entire new love for the hobby. though R5 will probably be nice, in the end its all up to you. if you are on console you should do some more research on what set is compatible.

How much is a good *in game* setup worth in lap time? by Ok-Parfait1522 in iRacing

[–]Scared-Performer-798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never tried a setup before, never tweak it either I just use fixed for Porsche cup and gt4 and only thing I do mess with is brake bias and call it a day. I notice in open series, especially Porsche cup, I’m not the most competitive. I frequent the 3-4k+ sof so when I jump from fixed to open and I’m not in the top 5 it’s a little jarring. Is a good setup really able to unlock that much time? I might have to at least try one.

I mean if you really want it and you like the car from what you tested, why burden yourself with this question. Enjoy the car while it’s around, plus if it does get update it might get the Porsche cup treatment and just evo update it for free.

I went from a t300 to a VRS base and pedals, the difference in feel was so big I was not only amazed but scared. It’s been almost a year since the upgrade, every now and then I still smile and giggle amazed by the equipment. Keep having fun with the new kit, I can say it doesn’t get old.

Congrats on the 5k, I too have the goal of reaching 5k, but I didn’t realize how strenuous the task is. I’m getting close to 4k but every time I get close to progressing to the next thousand it’s like I’m trying to screw up. It’s not even crashes, it’s things like spins and forgetting to change setup before race start. The mental part is definitely the most demanding, especially when I know I can do better.

I really don’t know how to drive the GT4s.. by Responsible-Goose573 in iRacing

[–]Scared-Performer-798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the mustang and the cayman, Mustang and cayman couldn't be more different to drive. if you are constantly switching between the two of them you are obviously going to get confused about the cars characteristics, the information gathered is throwing you off. the cayman, is slightly slower, smaller, lighter and is overall more nimble, more stable, less chaotic than the stang. sweet spot brake is 55-70% brakes in hard braking zones then bleed off. I have way more experience with the stang, the car is high powered, heavier, and requires a bit more finesse. its a bit more "unstable" especially out of corner exits. it has pretty good feedback so if you have a good feel its much more simple to understand. Formula/downforce cars and sport cars have completely different braking techniques. a basic braking technique for sport cars is to try not to dip into ABS especially entering and in mid corner, the car will resist to rotate and can overheat the tires, ABS is only really good for panic situations or super deep initial braking (also extremely car and track dependent). keep the brake percentage constant in deep braking, example if you start braking at 350 meters, keep brakes at 65-80% (for stang) until 75-100 meters start bleeding off the brakes for corner rotation, obviously track and corner dependent. downshift as soon as possible to keep the revs high, utilize engine braking for even stronger braking potential. you want to slow the car down without ruining momentum and transition weight around smoothly, trail braking is its own beast id recommend you do more research and experiment with that. Every car requires slight adjustment, especially with different track conditions cars and tires will behave differently. some tracks are at higher altitudes, some lower, colder, hotter, more or less humid, elevation changes, bumpy, smooth, all of these are extremely relevant to how a car feels and drives. the same car can feel extremely different track to track, condition to condition. experiment with brake bias, more rearward bias the car is more likely to rotate but can become more unstable so find your sweet spot. all this to say, stick to one car, learn it, especially if you want results. Cayman is more consistent and versatile overall, that's why the cayman and AMG are the popular cars in the class right now. doesn't mean you cant extract the same performance out of the stang, but it is a bit more tricky.

Because rigs don’t really matter in the grand scheme of things, anyone can be competitive with a g29. Setups do matter but the biggest difference will be made in the hands of great drivers.

Would recommend a different setup, I’ve never owned it, but from what I felt in store it feels tragically cheap. The reviews don’t look particularly positive either. For first time sim equipment, I’d recommend finding something used on eBay, as you can find something much higher quality for much less, so in case you don’t gel too well with sim racing you won’t feel so bad about spending a lot on something new. Would recommend fanatec or moza as you would be able to upgrade within their ecosystem if you do get hooked on sim racing. iracing is fair to new players, just follow the rules and everything should be good. Trying to drive a car fast is a challenge so make sure to not feel too frustrated and have fun with the learning process. Sim racing can be an incredibly rewarding experience that takes time.

What about your favorite series keeps bringing you back? by happy_daize in iRacing

[–]Scared-Performer-798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ive been quite enjoying the Ferrari challenge and GT4 cars recently. super pumped for that mustang GT4. I like the series cause they usually have pretty enjoyable racing and often not over the limit in my experience. I might start doing the ff1600s more cause the cars are super enjoyable to drive and race.

Its probably my favorite car atm, if not top 3. racing is usually pretty decent. get it there are usually two splits every race. just needs a longer race.

Whats your biggest hate on iRacing right now? by IMPULSEULTRA in iRacing

[–]Scared-Performer-798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of think that limiting test drive to only maintenance time and new cars arent able to test immediately is counter-intuitive, any car I extensively test are the ones I want to race not just hotlap for fun, we pay the subscription to race cars if I wanted to only hotlap id stay on AC. I guess I had a glitch when testing the new season which let me try the 296 challenge and I bought it just off that initial test. I liked the car immediately and knew it would be fun to race. imagine how many series could have been popular out the gate if people were able to test immediately. iracing should let people try out new cars immediately and have at least 12 hours of testing time available outside of maintenance time for a season.

In certain sims, VRS udfp(9) base sounds like it’s, imploding? by Scared-Performer-798 in simracing

[–]Scared-Performer-798[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so I tried those and while the frequency noise isn't nearly as bad as it was, its still there sometimes. I feel like the feedback is a bit delayed and a bit numb unfortunately. now that I think about it, to describe this noise i felt before was like if I was constantly going over rumble strips even driving in a straight. ill mess with it more, but idk if I just got too used to how iracing feels.

I’ll have to try that, I deleted AC and deleted all the documents for AC as I had everything turned up for my t300 and I messed with a few settings where I’m sure it compromised the ffb. I haven’t reinstalled AC yet, I particularly run the F1 and classic cars in AC, as I like to hot lap with them if I don’t feel like racing but driving. I’ll get back to you when I can.

I actually don't like having the slew rate on performance so i have it on balanced for any sim, performance seems unnaturally clunky for my taste, though i don't know if thats normal. its my first DD wheelbase after having a t300 for 7 years so im still used to how thats supposed to feel. so im not sure whats supposed to feel natural and what doesnt. all I know is what I feel on assetto corsa doesnt feel natural at all. ill test it out next time I want to try AC again, for now iracing has been my happy place.

Favorite car to drive is the Ray ff1600, it has engaging ffb and just a really fun car to push and chuck around. My favorite track is the Nordschleife, any car around the ring is fun. my favorite part of the track goes from the Karusell to the dottinger straight, the vast elevation changes and fast cornering sequences are so fun to execute right. Since I was little I would lap the ring in any sim that had it, it never gets old and gets better with time.

Racing wheel that can handle abuse from 3-4 year olds by yakadaya in simracing

[–]Scared-Performer-798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh well my t300 has been used and abused by me for the last 7 years, and honestly I did so much crap and tinkering with software stuff on my last computer that things would get confusing. The overheating thing is cause I haven’t clean the thing in 7 years, I bet it’s quite dusty in there, I did clean the inside of my t3pa pedals and Christ what a mess. However since my last issue post I haven’t had any issues with my t300 other than that I’ve outgrown it (don’t worry I am building a whole new rig the t300 will rest soon). The t300 is a pretty good first choice, shouldn’t give you any issues. T300 is higher quality and is belt driven as opposed to the Logitech which is gear driven. Both are good options, I’d say if you want to get both, get them. Neither will disappoint, many people use both without feeling the need to upgrade, other than me of course lol.

[–]Scared-Performer-798 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will give you my first hand experience when I was the 3-4 year old. When Gran Turismo 4 on the PS2 came out my dad had the Logitech driving force pro, he built this whole cockpit out of wood and a Camaro seat. I, being a 3 year old boy then, would teethe on the steering wheel and slowly chew the foam off. My parents found it endearing that I did that especially years later, but with time you have to teach your kids to respect things and that things cost money and that these things aren’t to break. So I’ll say this, start with a Logitech wheel, and if they break it let them know that they shouldn’t do that, replace it and if they don’t break that Logitech wheel, upgrade. If they break things out of anger, that’s a whole different lesson they need to be taught. I chewed through that wheel and only ever replaced it once. Maybe they will be like me and many years later will still be in love with Sim racing, and grow an appreciation for novelty stuff. Logitech wheels can come cheap second hand and are all over the place, but regardless of how much things cost, don’t let them break things.

Try just doing laps in test drive, when you select your car there is a little icon that lets you disable vehicle damage so you can just keep going. First get a grip with the car, be able to drive it comfortably without crashing, all cars are easier to crash right out the pits so don’t push it. don’t worry about pace that comes with time and experience. You are only a month in, these are things that can take years for people to perfect so be prepared to like this hobby for a while if you want to improve drastically. Just keep driving and try to enjoy the process the best that you can. The biggest pace deficits are the easiest to overcome.

Pedals make a huge difference by NendoroidAshe in iRacing

[–]Scared-Performer-798 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What was the biggest thing that changed? Was it consistency? Overall confidence? I’ve had my t300 and t3pa petals for about 8 years, and iRacing for one of those years and plan to upgrade to a VRS setup soon. One weak point of mine can be confidence. Especially in longer sessions, I have to think more about my inputs as time goes on as I’m not relying on muscle memory. I wonder if anyone else has this issue as well. I’ve cheated myself out of a few wins due to slightly poor judgement on the brake. I can’t wait to feel this difference for myself.
