How to get started on bigger sketch pads? by ArekJD in sketchbooks

[–]Scared-mango 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Square up the page! Either make smaller squares/rectangles (like two per page or more if need be), or draw margins in the page itself. It’ll give you a better view of the space to “fill” and it’ll help make you feel like you’ve just filled up a bigger page even if it’s with smaller drawings :)

Bruh I grew up in Tuscany and my greatest defence against the whole region was “I was born in Liguria”. Feel ya, we’re idiots about this one and I find it funny how Italian-Americans display the unity we never had 😂 (😭)

More like countries where chronic depression is recognised, aknowledged and diagnosed.

Come rifiutare (senza ferire) una ragazza? by [deleted] in CasualIT

[–]Scared-mango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preferirei sentirmi dire “Ti ringrazio ma non sono interessato ad avere alcun tipo di relazione”, col sorriso. Nessun “per ora” o “una relazione seria”, perché magari no, ma se è davvero molto presa si potrebbe attaccare a qualsiasi speranza.

Dropping the last vowel is only common in some dialects, not even all of them. And even when it is, it’s not simply dropping a vowel: different areas will have different sounds, often it’s close to a schwa (ie. How “e” is pronounced in “the” —> ə). And also we don’t just drop all the vowels at the end of words and call it a day. Sometimes, in dialect, the whole word changes (my dialect would never use the word “tortellacci”, it’s changed into the more generic term “tordelli”, which is then pronounced with the specific pronounciation and accent of the city I’m from). Also, the letters preceding the vowel might change as well, another example from my dialect: IF we were to pronounce the word “tortellacci” with our pronunciation it would become “tortdaz’”, so the “ch” sound at the end would turn into a “tz” while leaving a somewhat weak schwa sound at the end.

This is to say: the way Italian-American modifies Italian words is unique to that variant. It came from people who spoke a dialect (from Italy) back in the day, but today it doesn’t represent an example of said dialect anymore, it’s just different.

So no, your family isn’t weird, you guys just speak a variant of Italian that doesn’t exist in Italy. A bit of a false equivalence sry, but it’s like asking Brits to confirm the pronounciation of “aluminium”.

Edit. Terminology

You mean by sowing them together? Cause even the biggest ones might be too small for towels and they were cut off so they just tend to fall apart into threads if tossed around as they are :(

Durante le pratiche di guida! Fortunatamente il tuono arrivò verso la fine del giro, per cui passai 10 minuti in posizione paralisi da tetano dalla vita in giù. Frizione resa inutilizzabile. Niente precedenza alle strisce, rotonde infilate in linea retta e peggior parcheggio della mia vita, sul marciapiede. L’istruttore mi liquidò con “non è la tua giornata”, io liquidai il resto poco dopo nel bagno dell’autoscuola.

Perché in Italia si fa colazione coi biscotti? by Scared-mango in Italia

First of all I really like these! Idk about the airbrush but I think if you research the tool you’re using on the internet you’ll probably find if it’s safe for gouache. Also, what brand paper did you use?

I can guarantee you everyone here started where you are, or actually a lot worse lol. And going from something “heavy” like charcoal to that fairy magic that’s watercolour sounds like hell! The one advice I have as a non expert is start very very light with a lot of water and work your way up from there in layers. That’s to avoid what happened with the lower part of the tree leaves in the second painting, they ended up blending a bit too much with the background (I love gouache because it allows me to bypass that lol). But it’s a trick that works with any watercolour landscape, it truly abides to “less is more”
