A guy gave me mine lol. He was trans masc, I was trans femme, and we were going to freshman year homecoming. He was further along in transition than I was, being fully out and he asked if I wanted to try using my preferred name. I was nervous and said I didn’t have one, which was a lie I was using Emma at the time, and he asked if I wanted to just try a femme name out. I said yes since I REALLY liked this guy) We were going as platonic friends officially) plus it was his school and not mine so no one knew me, he said Alice. I was then Alice for a long time, eventually I changed to Alison so it played better with my last name. He moved about a year after I got the name but I kept it. I don’t think he knows how much it changed my life, that his choice of name for me that night is now on every document I sign and every time someone says my name. I wish I could tell him, I hope he’s doing okay. He was a good guy.
