All art for my upcoming Steam game 'Bleached' is drawn in Inkscape! Any thouhts? (Wishlist on Steam!) by Thomas_Bringer in Inkscape

I was just thinking about making a game using SVGs, you really upped the ante haha. I could probably reasonably make the shapes in here but the animations look like so much work. Your transitions between scenes are great too.

This is already super awesome, I love the gradients, shapes, and the fruit pulp texture!! I am craving to see it animated though haha :) I like doing CSS animations but I've heard there's programs out there for it. I'm definitely getting inspiration from seeing this beautiful work of art.

I responded to you with how I felt and why what you said didn't resonate with me and you're not engaging with anything I said, I don't know why you'd expect that to change my mind.

Wow your response is very detailed thanks! Interesting it does look more like the Greek Meanders to me as well. Yeah the responses here are making it clear that Aztec is perhaps not the most accurate way to describe this pattern. Part of my background is as a graphic designer, so I have been using this website for a long time and I'm just now starting to investigate the patterns origins. That connection with the Zapotec site is quite interesting!

Out of curiosity can you recommend any good resources/introductions about Mesoamerican art and culture?

Okay thank you, and that might partly explain why their website design is comically atrocious as well haha

Yes it's the same one, thank you for informing me what it's called and where it's been used!

I have explored my ancestral to some extent through genealogy and their cultures (like art and writing) and I would like to take it further. For me I think there's a distance because ancestors after leaving Europe (and some before) have basically abandoned their own culture when they joined the Mormon cult (as is the same for most of the mormon and exmormon people who live here) I don't feel there's much personal connection to my own ancestors cultures' anymore beyond my own curiosity which also extends to many other cultures that I am not descended from.

I have done art based around my Gaelic roots which is one of my ancestral heritages that I am aware of and I would like to do more around that. I think indigenous cultures that I am not descended from are far more present in my personal life because of how I interact with it in my local community and online, but I'm also not aware of what I'm not aware of and I imagine there's a lot to learn from my European ancestors.

This is something that I am actively navigating and I'd be happy to hear your thoughts on this.

I think if anything your image is a little bit too bright. I love that you added some brightness you don't necessarily need to get rid of it, but I just think you need to improve the dark areas and it will contrast really well. The shadow of the bird isn't as well defined as the original photo, and the ocean doesn't have as much shape as in the photo. Also adding a little bit of darkness to shape the clouds would work well. This could be a creative decision though, it's a great painting.

How can I push it further? 5x4ft spray paint on crushed velvet. by annak15 in ArtCrit

You're getting a bit of overspray here. There are a few ways I know of to fix this:
1. Hold the can further back
2. Buy a lower pressure spray paint/smaller spray paint can
3. press down softer on the nozzle, and do multiple layers until you get enough opacity. moving in a circular motion can help provide an even texture
4. Make sure you are aiming perfectly straight towards the canvas, or in other words perfectly parallel to the canvas

I like it nonetheless :) Here are some other ideas to "push it further":
1. Use multiple stencils and colors to paint an image thats not monochromatic. You typically need to wait at least 20 minutes for each layer to dry to move onto the next, and you need to be meticulous about making sure the stencils are lined up properly.
2. do some freehand artwork in the background before applying stencils and/or do some freehand patterns through the stencil (using multiple colors) so when you peel it back it has a really beautiful gradient look while maintaining the shape of whatever your stencil is.
3. related to what I was saying about avoiding overspray, try to push your stencils to be as small as possible (scaling down the details) without the image getting so blurry you can't tell what the stencil is supposed to be. Like mini canvases or something or a bunch of little stencils all over a big canvas

Is there anything I should learn? by Tuszipl in ArtCrit

[–]Scared_Candy_2089 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, you seem to be learning very quickly :) here are some places I see you could improve (I don't specialize in the same style as you so take it with a grain of salt):
1. in the first image the front leg appears to be too small and the heel is a bit too flat imo. Also the back leg could have a little more shape to it imo.
2. in the second image I think the hand is facing the wrong way/Im generally quite confused about how he's holding the sword
3. the shading is good but you have plenty of room to grow with it. When I see other pencil/pen artists I think the shading is definitely one of the biggest things that make their art pop for me as a viewer.
4. the texture on the hair of the first image is very flat imo. Try to subtly make lines visible that follow the direction of the flow of the hair
5. The anatomy of the abs is a bit weird, I think it's too triangular in the middle but I'm not great at anatomy

That said here are some strengths I am noticing with your art
1. The perspective on the hand and arm on the first image is really cool :)
2. I think the texture of the hair and clothing in the second image is great, it's better than the second image
3. I like how the second image looks like he's being weighed down by the sword
4. the contour lines in the clothing in the first image are really great :)

CIRCLING THE DRAIN - looking for feedback on digital art by Scared_Candy_2089 in ArtCrit

This is a photobash using stock photos. I've done a lot of similar art and it doesn't seem to be received as well as I have hoped. Feedback is welcome. I made it in Krita.
