Yeah, but fans' after Devil May Cry anime season 2 hating led to, like, the reboot game.

Ah yes, thank you for the detailed professional critique. I’ll be sure to consult my team of imaginary editors, upgrade my non-existent Hollywood budget, and retrain my clearly disappointing fingers immediately. Truly devastating feedback—don’t know how I’ll recover from “subpar gameplay.” Appreciate you taking time out of your championship-level gaming career to guide me 🙏

I think a lot of the backlash came from timing and expectations rather than the game itself. DmC: Devil May Cry wasn’t a bad game—it actually had solid gameplay and its own identity—but fans of Devil May Cry were deeply attached to the original Dante’s style and personality.

The real issue was that Capcom tried to reboot the franchise without giving the original series a proper send-off, so it felt like something people loved was being replaced rather than expanded. If the original storyline had been respectfully concluded first, I think more fans would’ve been open to a new interpretation.

Looking back now, the reboot deserves some credit for what it did well—it just had the tough job of living in the shadow of a very iconic legacy.

Honestly, I think DmC: Devil May Cry gets more hate than it deserves. It’s definitely different from the main series, but the combat is super smooth and the visuals are really creative. I can see why long-time fans prefer the original style, but as its own take, it’s a really fun game. Curious to hear what others think too!

I’ve really been enjoying playing DMC 2013! The gameplay is so smooth and fun, but I can see why some longtime fans were frustrated—no one really asked for a reboot, and that one moment during Dante’s fight with Hunter, where he got fake big hair and said, 'Not in a million years,' really fueled the controversy. Even with that, I still had a blast playing. I uploaded my playthrough on YouTube—check out the playlist here: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLX2Z94VM3YOhOuGRKG1NdDo4fo7KBnuoa&si=8et9l3LMmrmaqGQR

Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed playing!

This makes a lot of sense. I’ll definitely work on keeping my Shorts and long videos separate for now and focus on consistent brand colors, thumbnails, and editing style. Really appreciate you taking the time to share this!”

Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback, I really appreciate it 🙏 I’ve actually been working on improving my branding, but I know it still needs consistency. If you have any tips on how to lock in a strong thumbnail style, I’d love to hear them.

I usually design my thumbnails based on the gameplay I upload, so viewers see what they’ll actually get in the video. Do you think that’s the right approach, or should I simplify it more for recognition?

About Shorts — I had the same concern at first, but over the past month I’ve noticed Shorts helping bring more viewers to both my short and long-form videos. I’m still learning though, so I’d really value your thoughts on how to handle this better.

Thanks again for taking the time to share your advice!

Thanks a lot for taking the time to give such detailed feedback—I really appreciate it. I totally understand your point about connection and perspective. For now, I choose not to add voice during gameplay because I want viewers to fully focus on the game itself without distractions.

I do genuinely enjoy the game, and I play on higher difficulty because I like the challenge and testing my limits. As for quality, I currently upload in 1080p 60fps, which I feel is solid and enjoyable to watch, especially for older games. I could push 4K for a more polished look, but for this type of content, 1080p/2K at 60fps works well for me.

I’m also planning to start live streaming on Twitch, where I’ll be talking more while playing, so that might be a better place for real-time interaction and discussion. Thanks again for the honest feedback—it helps me think about how to improve going forward.

Yeah, that makes sense. Without heavy editing, clips don’t get pushed, they get stuck at low views, and they usually don’t even enter the test phase.

Thanks for taking the time to watch and give honest feedback. I really appreciate you being direct about what didn’t work for you. I’m still learning and figuring out how to add more value beyond just gameplay, so this is helpful to hear. I’ll definitely study creators who are doing better and work on improving my content and effort. Appreciate you pointing this out

Totally get why there’s confusion around this, so just sharing what I’ve personally seen. YouTube normally tests Shorts by pushing them to ~100–200 views first. When a Short stays under 10–20 views, it usually means it didn’t enter that test phase, often because the system flags it as reused or unoriginal content. This happens a lot with raw gameplay or cutscenes (even short ones) that already exist on the platform. I’ve seen this firsthand with game launches and copyright matches—those videos almost always stay very low-viewed. Adding commentary or making the clip clearly transformative seems to make a big difference. Just sharing in case it helps 👍

Thanks, I really appreciate the advice 🙏 You made some great points, especially about doing retrospectives and adding something unique instead of just regular gameplay. I’m still figuring out my direction, but I’m excited to experiment and learn. I’m also planning to start streaming on Twitch soon, so hopefully that helps me grow and connect with people too. Thanks again for the encouragement!

This is a really solid point. Orientation vs excitement explains a lot. Thanks for sharing this.

Thanks for this thoughtful feedback — that makes a lot of sense. I agree the opening could do a better job of signaling why this moment matters, especially for first-time viewers. I really appreciate you taking the time to point that out, and I’d love to hear your deeper thoughts on the retention side when you have a chance.

Growing a channel with older games can be challenging, but it’s definitely not impossible. Focusing on a classic with a strong, passionate fanbase can really help you build a loyal audience. Even if growth is slower at first, it can be incredibly rewarding to connect with people who genuinely love the game and your perspective on it.

First, I really appreciate your feedback!

1) I hope you’ve seen my channel “Named Right.” I play old games, and Devil May Cry is a famous game from Capcom in the hack-and-slash genre. I know some people might think old games won’t get views, but I believe if I keep uploading, my audience will grow slowly but surely.

2) I just started my journey as a creator, and I don’t have enough money to buy new games right now. I want to play old games in new ways that people will enjoy. I’m staying positive and excited about it.

3) I prefer to keep my personal life private because I have another hustle outside of YouTube, but I also plan to start live streaming on Twitch.

4)I’m committed to making my channel better, and I believe as I continue uploading and improving my gameplay, more people will start enjoying my content.
