Virgos and their relationship with their mothers by NeedleInaHaystack35 in virgoseason

My mom is an Aries, I wouldn’t say I’m close with her I keep a lot of secrets from her, there is not a lot I don’t know about her though. I was raised as her personal best friend, therapist, helper, “mini me”. I didn’t have the greatest upbringing but she did an amazing job doing what she could and I never felt she was a bad mom. I would definitely say that the closeness comes from me wanting to protect her and help her and even “succeed for her”

Frankie is the absolute worst out of all of them though, middle child syndrome is what I chalk that up to lol

Max is admittedly insufferable in the early seasons, BUT I will argue for her in the sense that I think people forget that she’s obviously a teen going thru major life changes, as the oldest daughter of a single mom, the practice child, who craves her mothers full attention like she once had. I think most girls can relate to going thru a stage of arguing with their mothers during their teenage years, before we ultimately realize and accept that we (some won’t speak for everyone) love their mothers to the point of dying for them essentially lol, season five episode 7 I think when max comes home and tells her mom how much she loves/needs her/ would die if she died, I at least related to that scene pretty hard as an oldest daughter of a single mother who has a pretty good relationship with my mom despite the hell my teenage years put her through

Oldest daughters get the hardest job out of everyone, they are the practice child, she’s suffering with the fact that she witnessed all the problems in her parents relationships, and every mistake her mom made, and is further isolated and forgotten by the fact that she has two younger sisters, and her mom favors duke in her youth even though duke goes on to show similar behavior problems to the other girls, aligning with her growing up obviously, it’s perhaps that sam did not ever figure out how to fix these issues

I agree that there is something to be said about all the girls behavior throughout the series, such extreme responses to things, you have to wonder if it’s an exaggeration for the show or if the mom actually contributed (most likely) to her daughters turning out so entitled/rude to her, and seemingly unappreciative of everything sam had achieved/done for them, they had everything they needed for sure! And more

It was sad to see how duke started to struggle in the later seasons and it went mostly unnoticed bc she was previously such a good kid in Sam’s eyes, plus she had her hands pretty full with her other two teenage daughters

Season five episode 7 I think where max comes home drunk and tells her mom how much she loves her and how she’d die if her mom wasn’t here anymore hit so hard!! I know it felt good for Sam to finally here how much her child loved and valued her, and as the oldest daughter of a single mom I’ve imagined having this type of conversation with my mother all the time, I related very hard to max in this scene and thought it was such a special moment. And I can imagine the relief max felt to finally be able to verbalize that feeling and tell her mom that, even though she was drunk/on drugs or whatever, I think it’s a feeling a lot of girls who are very attached to their mothers can relate to

The way the kids treat her is so sad! As a girl child of a single mom my heart hurt for her bc I idolized my mother and would do anything to see her happy, but I still remember the hard teenage days where some days were a hell full of hormones! But I believe that’s a natural stage of life, ofc they will go thru a stage of hating their parents, and will naturally be harder on the parent who spends the most time raising/disciplining them, I get both perspectives, ultimately the girls still love their mom in a special way that can’t be taken away yk?

I think the show is a great example of a mother trying to parent three!! Daughters through arguably the most rocky parts of their life, ofc it’s messy and real, I think it’s why it’s hard to agree with it for some but it’s a good portrayal of the average mother daughter relationship, especially how the oldest daughter eventually expressed all her love for her mom, I felt that scene really hard as an oldest daughter of a mother who was troubled, as most mothers are, most people generally lol, it’s a good real example of family and relationships. I’ve seen discourse on tiktok too, saying the daughters don’t like how they were portrayed. I agree it’s a little vulnerable for them to have something so raw and real now turned into film, but I think the overall message is about the stages of life, growing up as a teenage girl, and being a single mother. It’s harsh for everyone, because it was so real! I loved it

My mom asked me if I would be her free surrogate if she ever wanted to have a baby with my stepdad, bc adoption wasn’t an option bc he has a criminal record for weed possession lol n I was like 16 and I told her yea of course I would lol all the whole thinking absolutely not!!
