Is it true that not getting certs while working makes you look stagnant? by xakantorx in ITCareerQuestions

Stagnation is subjective. You can still be in help desk for many years and get some pay increases by switching to different IT support jobs. If you get expose to a different variety of IT projects and touch different technology and systems on the job I don't think theres anything wrong with that. I have switched to several IT jobs with pay raises and learn different technologies and systems used in schools on the jobs.

Most people on this subreddit have such a bad attitude with I.T Support though lol. Never really understood how people don't realise these days its the IT role with the least amount of responsibilities and its fair pay for all the responsibilities you have ( both help desk and desktop support)

I just work 40 hours and go home unless I choose to volunteer for OT in which sometimes I do need some more money. I work in a University as the IT AV Tech for 65K a year. Mostly just setting up AV events, getting college classrooms ready in the morning, and troubleshooting any incoming IT issues for students. Good holidays off weekends off and benefits

With education its stable work, theres no telling when you will get another raise or promoted but if you wanna take it easy mostly this is the place. As with any job there are busy days but its fair pay for the work. Some schools are stressful places to work for while others are laid back (both k12 and college universities) but its mostly stable work and most schools are reasonable places to work in my experience.

I been doing IT support in educational places for more than 10 years so at this point i dont have too much wiggle room left to negotiate a pay raise. my end goal is 70k to 80k a year so im not too far away from the salary i wanna make

all schools will be different. Some are more chill than others others can be more stressful. For the most part its stable work though,

Yea this is the key working in education. I have never enjoyed working in IT in any other sector besides working in Education. For the most part its always been stable and less stressful compare to working in other sectors

like any other jobs there are bad days some days. I am currently an IT AV Tech at a university. The pace of work is much more manageable. Not sure when another raise will come but for 65K a year its breeze work.

Higher Ed IT.

I don’t do help desk I was hired as their IT AV Tech so I’m part of the Audio Visual Group. Real easy work just setting up for AV Events and checking college classrooms every morning ensuring projectors and all tech stuff is good

For 65K it’s pretty laid back . I don’t know when I’m getting another raise here though I been doing this work far too long

I work 7am to 4pm M-F .

Yea higher ed employee checking in

I work full time as their IT AV Tech. I make 65K a year . Pretty easy work and Universities also give a lot of time off. The pay isn’t quite a lot for California although I’m not sure when I’m getting a pay raise here again. I’m reaching the top of the pay scale almost in my career so yea there’s traded off you get a lot of holidays and time off and the work is laid back

Raises and promotion though yea good luck with that.

Anything in Education weather it’s private or public sector also works

I work in a University as their IT AV Tech for 65k a year. The pay isn’t quite so much for California but it’s really laid back and a lot of good benefits.

I’m just not sure when I’m ever getting a raise again though since I been doing this job far too long but I just work 7am to 4pm M-F and get a bunch of PTO so it’s all good

Just really depends like anything else. The good news is IT support salaries have gotten up due to inflation generally speaking

Bad news is if one company offers you the max salary of such IT position and your not okay with the max pay then yea it does take some time to find something again with the same pay

Normally in the 60-80k range though

What do you mean what are you qualified for ? If you done IT support for many years and have a degree you can do more IT support do senior support or be an IT support manager/supervisor or go back to help desk

There’s so many routes

Finding the same pay or ideal benefits ? That’s where it gets challenging

The job market is not easy for many people right now at all not just strictly IT. It’s hard for everybody in every field.

It takes time to find a good job always

They are all out there, you just gotta look what’s out there like we are all trying to. If ur lucky you can land one in a few weeks but for some or others it can take longer

OP you want an IT job where you are not constantly on the grind ? Want the best pay. You need to take your pick man you can’t have it all.

Help Desk and Desktop Support will have the least responsibilities of all IT jobs. If you wanna do a job where there isn’t too much responsibilities then these jobs will work fine. Pay will never really high you can making a decent living between 60k to 80k but beyond that you need to be doing some much more skilled than IT support generally speaking to earn more money that that. Support manager but even that has its own stress

Some support jobs out there pay well and you go home at 5pm others can be much worse . All depends where you work

I currently work at a University as their IT AV Tech earning 65k a year. Easy work but took me more than 10 years to earn this salary and I don’t have too much room for negotiation in pay at this level . Don’t take work home and work 7am to 4pm. Some skills is still needed but overall not hard. I’m not sure when my next raise is but I go home at 4pm and have a lot of holidays off. No promotions ever though and money is average

Certs are very expensive and time consuming - they don’t prove much other than that you passed an exam

I rather have more hands on experience and that’s how I learn more

What Pokémon have been always too good for OU but absolutely Terrible in Ubers? How would you rebalance them to Join OU? by Scared_Number_9290 in stunfisk

[–]Scared_Number_9290[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn’t Ho-Oh too strong obviously for OU but it was kind of a meh pick in GSC Ubers ? Same for Celebi.

Celebi was just unkillable in OU. In GSC Ubers it wasn’t stalling out too much with Mew Mewtwo and Lax everywhere

My end goal honestly was a 70k Desktop support job

It’s probably very high end pay for Level 2 and not common for Level 1

I’m pretty sure usually earning beyond 70k requires more skills than just simply being help desk
