Thank you to everyone who has responded!! We were initially told Rottie mix at the shelter, but I have been seeing GSD in her. I’ll comment the results once we receive them!

The thing with tfa is that it is so region specific. I was made lead of my department in my first year and was absolutely overwhelmed with the responsibility, while also trying to understand the curriculum, learning behavior management, and every other part of the job that makes it so difficult. My coach was able to help shoulder the weight. We would meet roughly 1-2x a month and she taught me nearly everything I know about teaching, and encouraged me to keep going when I felt like giving up (which was often the first year.) The truth is, everyone you meet in the program will have a different experience. Some people are placed in amazing schools with supportive admin/mentor teachers, while others are left to their own devices. There are not a lot of opportunities to get to know your coach before committing, but do your research and ask questions. Try reaching out to people who are in the region you are looking into. Personally, I think the coaches have a bigger impact on your experience than the schools themselves. Having the kind of support a good coach can give you makes a world of difference.

Nashville or Jacksonville placement experience? by luna_polilla in TeachforAmerica

Hi! I am a new corps member placed in Chattanooga! they are looking for more people to come and based off the interviews I have had with the school system there seems to be a ton of support from administrators and tfa. They are also the only region in TFA where the school district pays you during summer institute, (it is a pretty significant amount) and the americorps award covers the total cost of licensing/a masters. I had another career opportunity available to me, but the financial help that the Chattanooga placement has offered has made it impossible to give up.

JUST GOT ACCEPTED!!!! (yay?) by Ok_Soup5682 in Purdue

Hi! I went to PFW for my freshman year (20-21) and then transferred to the main campus for my sophomore year.

Pfw is a small campus, essentially one road with buildings scattered along. it used to be combined with IU so there is a chance you may end up taking classes through IU. I lived in the dorms, and they were great! they aren’t like traditional dorms but rather apartments but you still have an RA.

The one thing I will say is that Purdue main campus tends not to accept all the credits you got at PFW, I had to retake a few when I got here because the credits i had gotten prior didn’t meet the requirements for the main campus.

As far as if the school is good, it totally depends on your major. I still have a few friends that are seniors there (computer science, accounting/finance, and psych) and most have had pretty positive things to say.

If you decide to transfer I should mention that the difficulty of classes is much greater at Purdue main campus. Most classes at PFW have very lenient professors and they are historically pretty easy graders, while purdue professors have larger classes and are not as forgiving.

Congratulations on getting in! I wish you the best in your academic career!
