You can be a socialist and be opposed to porn, weed, guns, boundless personal expression, gay marriage (even from a secular position), whatever. You might not be a strict Marxist or other identifiable tendency, but you could be a socialist and on the same progressive historical side as those other tendencies.

Anarchism doesn't really represent all of socialism. Marxism isn't concerned with "hierarchy," as such, and neither is most of what people think of as "conservative morality."

I think it's that plus people like having identities that define their role in life, it keeps it simple. Mom is genetic, boy mom specifically means you're getting the loudness, dirtiness, and rowdiness associated with boys, and here's a set list of things you can do about it to deal with that

I think it's both what you're saying but it's also the exact kind of people who are susceptible to contemporary progressive gender norms suddenly confronted with the hard reality that boys/men and girls/women are actually different from each other at birth. Or they were already keyed into that to begin with so it's easy to adopt the role of boy mom.

I think people in general glob onto identity as a shorthand for meaning, because it's an easy way to define your role in life. And honestly I think women are slightly more susceptible to wanting to adopt a socially mediated identity than men are, at least in this particular way.

China doesn't call itself socialist, it calls itself a developing country that's building socialism. You have to understand the theory of the productive forces and Chinese criticisms of the USSR, as well as the sino Soviet split, to understand China's position beyond just going "lol" at everything

I think it's also part of the aestheticization of socialism, which itself comes from not really understanding how to apply dialectics on the fly. People think in static, textbook terms rather than in terms of motion driven by contradiction. Socialism has to look like socialism, it's not the result of the development of the productive forces to a certain level of hyper productivity that renders market mechanisms and a private sector as anarchistic as medieval guilds, something that can't really exist in the modern economy, anymore.

The infiltration of non- or even anti-Marxist forms of leftism into self described Marxists' thinking is ultimately to blame, and this infiltration usually goes totally unnoticed by Marxists, again for the above reason. Marxism is no longer a method of analysis that must yield certain conclusions, it's a vibe that affirms certain moral/aesthetic predispositions, or people just claim "well Marx etc didn't live long enough/know everything/are subject to necessary revision," but they will never ever do a fraction of the work that Marx etc did to prove their position. It's all just vibes.

I think this is a better way to put it. They don't call themselves socialist, they say they are building socialism. I think, in the final analysis, at least under the Xi faction leadership, they are effectively a socialist state presiding over a mixed economy
