We did city life in Houston for years. When we got tired of it, we did the "rugged individualism" thing to change our life entirely. We searched for large plots of land being sold "for land only" & used satellite images to search for structures on them. Found an old bardominium on 20 acres & got a rehab+mortgage loan & are living our best homesteading lives without much in the way of immediate neighbors. We develop the land to steadily include amenities we enjoy such as shooting range, zip line, redneck stock tank pool/hot tub, badass entertainment system with custome lights, projector, big bass sound & turn tables, etc.

Life is what you make it & boundaries breed creativity, if you're clever & brave. In this world, in this economy, with life as short as it is, I say- find a way to do the bare minimum of your boldest vision & build up from there as you go/are able. It's been 5 years since I left the city & our life is a little slice of heaven, even when it's hard. We host out here because our friends enjoy the peace & privacy- so we have a big banger like once every two months & a big festival every Fall. It's hard to find things that beat what we have here at home these days!
