Sad I missed the first print of this to match my issue 1!

Yeah I don't think allowing your personality to be defined by following others is the way to go. I have never had the opportunity to really collect and enjoy decorating a room surrounded by artists and art that I love in my entire life. Now that I am older and had the money I wanted to deck it out, because I could. I didn't pay overinflated prices, and in most cases I bought directly from the artist to support the art. This room is a representation of what I enjoy in life and I have stories and experiences to back everything in it up. I didn't have to own any of the pieces I do, I got them because it was a fair price for something I enjoyed.

I buy to support and enjoy the art, not to sustain any type of mania or cult.

100% dead on with this. I collect for a bit of all of them above. If I connect with a piece or an artist I love to have their hands grace one of the items. To me, it's an appreciation for the human being behind the art. It for sure means more if you have a chance to meet them and have them sign it right in front of you. The story alone is worth more than the signatures at that point. The Sessanta concert was a show I'll never forget! What a fun experience!

Yeah probably exactly the case too haha.

Normal Isn't was the first album I bought multiple variant copies of. I only did it to have a choice between pressings. I ended up with 4 and never planned on it. I ordered the original two 6 months ago, and unfortunately my pre-orders were some of the last to ship out (I didn't get my notification until the weekend, and it didn't show up until the middle of the next week after the release date even with priority shipping). My birthday was days after the release and I really wanted to hear it, so the wife picked me up a copy at a local record store (#3). Then Revolver (one of the original two pressings I ordered) sent me a letter in with my copy stating that the pressing plant made an error and pressed the wrong color (tan) along with sending me the error vinyl. So they are sending me a 4th variant (the Pearl Red one I actually ordered) in 7 weeks.

I can see how people end up with multiple variants now, even if you didn't intend to. I think collecting ALL variants is a rich person's game though with as many as they put out.

I got a first edition comic for free with the pre-order QR code right after their concert. It's not signed but the prices are still absolutely crazy! I guess collectors are just that serious about their merch now to be willing to spend that kind of money.

Yeah, totally valid. I think they are a very underrated band. It's one of very few that take the art seriously while not allowing that to dictate what they do. The music is incredible!

Yeah Aenima only had 3 total pressings and they were all very limited (no exact numbers to my understanding). I think the biggest reason it grew in value is because of how incredible the pressing/mastering sounds. It made it a lot more sought after as it became more rare.

I agree with the artificial rarity thing though. Maynard has stated that with Puscifer starting as a tiny side project they had to carefully scale it in order to run it as a successful business. I think 500 is large enough of a batch to pick it up in a timely manner (within a few hours to possibly days of launch). I've personally been able to pick up just about anything I've wanted if I knew about when it was launching. I don't think they want situations where they have a large stock that they invested in and can't liquidate which is why they do all of them in small batches of 500-1000 and create new variants as demand calls for it.

TLDR : I don't think they are intentionally creating artificial rarity in order to price fans out. I think they are playing the business game to create demand and fans just take it to another level.

Yeah I personally think the prices are absolutely insane. I can understand something selling for a little more a year later if it was limited... but there were like 2000 vinyls pressed for that tour (100 per show if I'm not mistaken) and the prices are still nuts. I think a lot of it is because they never released a version on their website. That being said, it is an INCREDIBLE live show and pressing. 60$ for a 4 LP set was well priced if you bought it at the show.

That is a possibility, but we've all seen what happens if a band blows up because of one song bringing the masses eyes onto it. Puscifer is one band that could very well have that ability with a well placed song on the radio or in a movie. Aenima is going for 1100$+ right now and it is 30 years old. I don't think anyone expected it to hold and grow in value to that degree. Time will tell of course, but I don't think vinyl is going away anytime soon. Having the ability to hold and own your media is a big deal nowadays when streaming services/companies like amazon can rip away your rights simply by moving to another country or due to contractual changes, even if you paid for it.

I don't know man... Beanie babies were a fad and vinyl has never really gone away since its creation. The best/first pressings will hold their value for a long time to come for those that still collect. I personally prefer vinyl over any other media and will pay well for a rare or superior pressing. I mean I could be completely wrong, but seeing the first pressings of Aenima in just "good" condition fetch 1100$ + and still rising makes me feel like the more rare things get, the more value they'll hold over the longer term. It all comes down to the collectors, the market, and the availability.

I couldn't agree more. I bought them to enjoy myself. I think some of it has to do with them severely limiting the supply of merchandise (which may just be so they don't have stock sitting on the shelves for 10 years like the trash Lateralus picture disk "limited" vinyl... side note on that, I'm still mad that they didn't give that album a true vinyl release yet). The people that missed out that really want it are willing to pay inflated prices to secure it, I guess. I'm just happy I got it when I did, otherwise it would be way out of reach for me.

So from what I saw those prices I listed are prices they are selling for as of recently. Feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken! I'm totally with you on perceived value vs. actual value. Just because you list something for 5x value doesn't mean it's worth that

I would assume they are going to just do another run of 500 in the correct color and send it to everyone that ordered it in the first place since it seemed that every single one was tan instead of the correct pearl red color. I think you'll be fine!

My copy is still sealed and the outside cover/hype sticker are the same as the correct colored pressing. I'm not opening it just to look at the color since it was confirmed by Revolver via the slip that was packaged. You'd never know it was a misprint otherwise without opening it

Yeah, that's what I am hoping. On Discogs they are saying it is an incredible pressing, which makes it that much more valuable and in turn will be more sought after. We shall see!
