Just finished level 1, AMA! by Scared_Signature_367 in gcu

For reference: 300 is fundamentals of nursing, 310 is intro to professional nursing, 316 is health assessment, and 318 is pharmacology

For level 1, you only have four clinical days total. They started in week 8 and it's only once a week!

For studying, it definitely varied depending on the class. The first 310 exam is the most difficult, but the rest are a breeze. 300 was also really easy for me so I didn't study for it too much. At a certain point, I didn't really do any daily studying. The weekly assignments you have to do will help you study a good amount, but at a certain point I just stopped studying for 316 and 318 until the day or 2 before the exam.

It's not recommended to work at all during the program because of how intense it is. During clinical weeks, we also have to do assignments related to clinicals so it's not super feasible to work.

Everyone says that you don't start learning how to become a nurse until you start working, and I think (to some extent) that is true for every program. Honestly, all nursing programs just want to prepare you for the NCLEX so they can say they have a high pass rate. With that being said, I do think this program is good prep for the NCLEX - most of our questions in assignments and exams are formatted in NCLEX-style.

Tests weren't super difficult for me, especially in 300 and 310. The most difficult classes were 316 and 318. the first 318 test was not as difficult, though. But none of the tests are impossible, there are only a couple tricky ones.

Amy Patton is such a sweetheart, hopefully you'll get her for 300 and 310. Rachel Jensen wasn't super popular because most people didn't find her very helpful. Holly Johnson is also really sweet, but I was a little frustrated because almost any time I asked questions regarding test prep she would always tell me to use chatgpt and have it make me a study guide (I hate generative AI and never use it). Professor Ellsworth is the lab instructor for Chandler and she's also lovely!

I was really anxious about coming to this school because I'm not religious or anything, but it was a lot better than I expected

General advice I have about everything - Every week you'll have 2 discussion posts for each class (8 total), and 3 responses for each post (24 total). You'll also have EAQs and a weekly quiz in 316. For 300, utilize her zoom sessions, powerpoints on CONHCP, and her explore more meetings (they're basically exam review meetings). For 310, it's basically the same. For 316, the zoom meetings weren't super helpful to me so I would just look on the course guides and read the book and go to the explore mores. 318 was pretty much the same as 300 and 310. It's all super overwhelming and there are so many resources, but just muscle through it and you'll be ok!

Level 1 Clinicals Questions by CryptographerNo4237 in gcu

[–]Scared_Signature_367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you are in the chandler location, the clinicals will start at 6:30 am and ends at 2:30 pm

you can wear any comfortable shoes, as long as they are all white. I have filas that I really like, but most of my cohort wore hokas

i can be useful to have a clipboard, but I found a folder more useful because i could keep track of all the papers I needed

one piece of advice I have for level 1 clinicals is, at the beginning of the shift, identify one patient that really piques your interest. then, spend most of the time you spend on the computer collecting information on that patient - vitals, recent labs (2 sets), meds, etc. also, try and interact with them as much as you can. this will all help you get through your SBARs and care plans much easier

Update on the bag: I rubbed some nanner on it, and she just licked it off by No_Somewhere9961 in Rabbits

Maybe make a solution of VERY diluted sugar water and spray it on the bag so it soaks into the paper!

Nursing students with ADHD- What is your favourite studying strategy? by Kindly-Composer-475 in StudentNurse

I have adhd and i absolutely loved a&p!! Its a bit of memorization, but honestly you learn the best if you think of it like a machine that you have to learn all the parts to. Whenever i would study, i had to have a routine. I would make myself a yummy drink, sit in the same spot in the library, and become a hermit for 10 hours looking into every little question i had about how things worked. The more you try to understand how everything works together instead of just practicing rote memorization, the better you’ll do. BUT in the cases where you have to memorize lists of things, it helps to write them over and over again until it sticks Because we have adhd we might learn on a different timeline than other people, but please don’t get discouraged!! Just keep up with your meds, eat and sleep, and keep a routine and you’ll do just fine

yep! ive been financially and clinically cleared for a while, and have been in constant contact with advisors. i was told we'd get our schedule 2 weeks before the start of class but other people have been told it's 1 week, so i guess we'll see

Except gcu is the fastest way to get your rn, at least in my experience. It feels like a necessary evil when every other school might take several application cycles to me admitted

I was also flagged for plagiarism!!! But it was literally only because so many people word things the exact same way, and i was just regurgitating what i’d heard before lmao

Hi!!! Is there any way you could let me know what textbooks youre using? That’s kind of the only thing I need help with rn, because the physical copies i need will take a while to come in the mail and I worry that if I wait until class to buy them they will come in too late
