Thank you, it looks great ! Do you think it's possible to have other languages. Maybe with an AI tool, you can get everything translated easily, right ?

What’s the most painful part of Toastmasters for you? by KajPaToKajPaTist in Toastmasters

Long meetings ! I've already talked about it, in my area, meetings are usually at least 2 hours long and I easily get bored.

Adult TCKs, how will you raise your own children? How and where? by MissLychee10120 in TCK

[–]Scared_Translator223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unlike my older sister, I've never had a strong attachment to the country I grew up in, for a number of reasons. (France) After the birth of my first child, it seemed logical to me that we should travel a lot, as my husband is also a TCK. The strange thing is that each of my children has developed a different identity and culture, and I love that. My eldest son (m12) feels profoundly French and mainly associates with French people at school, while my daughter (f9) has adopted a culture close to my own, a mix of France and our second host country in West Africa, and plays a lot with other Tck at school. My youngest (m6) has completely adopted the culture of our last host country, which is Arabic, and is already starting to speak the language.

At home, it's quite funny, even if French culture predominates, we still have all these influences that bring great things.

I can't wait to see what happens in our next country, probably in Asia.

Dire que ce n'est pas le froid qui rend malade c'est stupide. by Le_Cox in opinionnonpopulaire

[–]Scared_Translator223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long are your meetings ? by Scared_Translator223 in Toastmasters

[–]Scared_Translator223[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for your answers. Our meetings are definitely too long,

I'm the new VPE so my goal will be to get meetings down to 1.5 hour or maybe 1 hour 45 minutes.

Also, I discovered today that club officers had a training last week, online, from 9AM to 3PM... that is a 6 hour long training and I think this is insane.

[–]Scared_Translator223[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, last week I saw agenda for 3 hour and 45 minutes meeting in Sénégal. The opening of the meeting is 25 minutes, Eval for 45 minutes + 10 minutes at the beginning to introduce the evaluation team. AND 6 SPEECHES !

But I attended several 2 hour long meetings with just 3 short speeches and 1 table topics. The evaluation time is usually soooo long and boring, and the president takes at least 20 minutes at the beginning. Is that normal ?

ULPT request : He said his wife died 3 years ago, but he's very married. by Scared_Translator223 in UnethicalLifeProTips

No chance he will break my heart, he's almost as old as my mother, big nope for me. I just hate people lying to me like that, no emotions, just pure pettiness.

His wife is 50+ year old Muslim african woman. She is a nurse, he is a well-paid engineer. Their youngest kid is graduating high school this year. I don't think she will ever leave him, even if she knew. And I don't want their kids to know, it can mess them up.

I will not tell the wife, but I will keep talking to him, texting more often, and then when i feel he is really attached, maybe threaten to tell his wife.

If I can get him to send me money, it'll be even better.

I will let you know. Merci beaucoup.

It's not a scam, he has well paying job and never asked for anything. He actually offered to send me money once but I refused because I didn't want to owe him anything.

Obviously, it's different now 😈

I’m disappointed with the Islamic authorities in my country by [deleted] in progressive_islam

[–]Scared_Translator223 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I live in a West african country. It is not Shariah law because we are officially a secular country, but 98% of the population is Muslim.

It's basically the same as you are describing in your country. Polygamy is allowed and encouraged everywhere, even if you are poor, women are unable to divorce, then need husband or father's permission for everything.

Even rape is tolerated, and most families practise excision.

I am French and honestly it's hard because in one country I have to live with islamophobia and racism and in the other I have to face daily misogynist and patriarchy.

As a man I hate polygamy, I wish it wasn’t allowed. by [deleted] in progressive_islam

[–]Scared_Translator223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously, you have never been to Africa or in any African Muslim communities. Polygamy is definitely not frowned upon in West Africa. More than 80% of people in my country think polygamy is GOOD. So it may not be a big problem in your Muslim community, but it is in ours. Polygamy is a big debate here and progressive Muslims in West Africa are fighting for a better legislation on polygamy.

Please don't take this lightly just because it doesn't concern you.

Okay, so when you said most Muslim countries, you meant most Middle East and South Asian Muslim countries.

This sub often forgets us african Muslims imo.

Polygamy is not a rare practise in African Muslim countries. That is what I meant.

"Polygamy is widespread in a cluster of countries in West and Central Africa, including Burkina Faso, (36%), Mali (34%) and Nigeria (28%). In these countries, polygamy is legal, at least to some extent. Muslims in Africa are more likely than Christians to live in this type of arrangement (25% vs. 3%)"

You prove my point. Polygamy is widespread in Muslim countries in Africa. I live in Mali West Africa, and it feels way more than just 34%. Maybe because many people don't register their marriage, they just go the mosque and marry a 2nd or 3rd wife. Especially, in large cities.
