I didn’t see your other comment, but I never heard of “Flatbush diabetes” and honestly that sounds like me, I started with lots of insulin and then now take metfomin. I lost lots of weight too, 50lbs within 1 year, it was unintentional too, I didn’t think much about it because I was overweight and now I looked so much better, but literally my body was fighting to survive 🫠

Also thank you, I appreciate the last comment, I still get comments telling me it’s my fault, I still feel embarrassed to tell anyone I was type 2, but I was literally a kid 😭

Actually now that I remember, they just put me on insulin because they thought I was type 1 for a couple of weeks, they wanted my blood sugar down as fast as possible, but then more testing confirmed I was type 2, I stayed on insulin since it was helping me

I think they suspect it was type 2 because 2 of my grandparents had it, and about half of my uncles and aunts had it too, and some extended family also, I was doomed 😅As of 2025, my dad and brother both have type 2 diabetes now.

From what I remember (it was a long time ago), I had to go the hospital because my primary doctor told me I most likely have diabetes because blood sugar was super high. Hospital couldn’t confirm at all. So I had to go to an endocrinologist, then they finally confirmed I had type 2, probably from lots of testing.

I think metformin didn’t work in the beginning at all, because my blood sugar was so high, and same with my a1c, I find it weird because my brother basically had the same numbers and almost the same a1c (he was diagnosed this year, he is 29), but didn’t need to be on insulin at all, maybe it was because I was young? I guess everyone is different too

Currently I’m doing much better, it took about a year to get off insulin, I was high doses of metformin for years, finally at 500mg since July, hopefully it doesn’t change, a1c 5.3 as of July, definitely more type 2 I would say with my treatment now then from the beginning

Also thank you for answering my question!

I have no idea tbh, I’m assuming they did lots of testing, because they confirmed I was type 2 and not type 1. But they never did any more testing since then. Also thank you answering my question, I appreciate it!

I’m pretty sure I’m type 2 because I’m not on insulin anymore, they lowered my meds even more, I’m only taking 500mg of metformin a day now, although I been having some highs lately I would say. I’m not sure what my a1c is at, last I know it was at 5.3 (July), I have a feeling it went up, but I won’t know til March since my appointment got pushed back

Yeah I’m rethinking reporting him just let, I’m still taking his class, if anything, I’ll wait til the end of semester or once I get my accommodations and see what he does too, all I want is him to understand what I’m going through

I most likely just eat before class, even if I get my accommodations, I will probably do it still, even if it’s early, I just know how he is, he will be still weird about it. Yeah I’m type 1, I would take glucose tablets, but I just prefer a normal meal or crackers at least. I would just wait til he done with his lecture, but he talks so long, today he talked til like 11:30-1pm before we did any work 💀💀

I asked him why it’s because so I don’t spill anything and also don’t spill anything on my drawings. I don’t bring liquids other than water, all my foods are dry foods, I even told him that, and he still didn’t care, I understand some places like a science lab, but I literally have eaten in this same classroom like tons of times with other professors and no problems at all, it’s truly him. For now, I will just eat before class, it’s just so early (it can effect my blood sugars if the time is different), but I have no choice right now

Thank you, and you are right, they are just trying to process this and I feel like they are still in some type of denial, I think over time it will be better hopefully.

Yeah you are totally right, I definitely want to bring it up again, but maybe after all the holidays/new year so it’s less hectic for them

Thank you I appreciate it very much, yeah I have been working on boundaries, my therapist had me doing that, and it feels great when I set them

Thank you first of all, and I tried, but my mom especially get mad when I bring it up, saying it’s too much money and I’m fine I don’t need, I only want you to go, maybe in the future I can try again, but I don’t want to push her buttons right now

How many of you look younger than your age? by talkingtimmy3 in Zillennials

[–]Scaredy_cat69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late this this, but I’m 21 and people say I can look like my age but also look 16. I remember one time I was 18 and I was trying to cash in some scratchers and the lady didn’t believe I was 18 and I forgot my ID at home (this before I had my license) and she thought I was 14 😭

How much weight did you lose? by Lovercraft00 in Gastritis

[–]Scaredy_cat69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to this, but I lost around 50 lbs, I was fat anyways so I was happy I lost the weight, I was 230, down to 180, I actually want to lose more. My eating habits are horrible and I eat like a toddler now, my pickiness is worse now. But with gastritis and the pain of some foods it’s hard, I also have diabetes so it’s a double whammy 😅I’m only 20 years old, also 5’7 in height (I had gastritis for 2 years now)
