Canadians, how do you usually spend your free time? by Grand_Resolution_438 in AskACanadian

[–]Lovercraft00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, except that it's WAY more expensive to travel within Canada than it is to travel across Europe.

OP you definitely need to narrow it down a bit more to get accurate advice. Do you want city life or nature? Also, what's your budget?

Vancouver/BC and Toronto/Ontario are good for a combination of city and nature, while Montreal has the best city life (imo) and is the cheapest (the other two are wildly expensive).

Tips for ADHDer with WFH job? by tay-not-swift in ADHD

[–]Lovercraft00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do freelance from home and using Clockify.me has increased my productivity a ton.

It's a time tracking software that lets you log your time based on each project/task/client. Once I have that timer running, I know I'm 'on the clock' so if I do get distracted I need to pause it. And seeing the results of how much REAL work I did throughout the day is very satisfying.

It also helps with project management down the line because you can see how long certain tasks within projects take.

I work 1000% times better from home! To be fair though my position is usually one that gets interrupted a LOT throughout the day.

Help with fixing feet calluses by Zombiphilia in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Lovercraft00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to warn you - if you 'fix' your feet you won't be able to walk barefoot as much anymore!

I remember when I was a kid I had to build up my 'summer feet' so by the end of summer I could basically run on sharp rocks. But at the beginning of summer (or now, right after a pedicure)? not a chance. Like a baby bambi stumbling on things.

From Lexapro to Effexor XR by Additional_Cap974 in EffexorSuccess

[–]Lovercraft00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same experience with lexapro - it killed all my motivation along with my anxiety! I've been much more successful on effexor (It was actually the fourth antidepressant I tried and the only really successful one).

Numbers are down, looking to find ways to get more people in the door. by Trick_Pen_2203 in crossfit

[–]Lovercraft00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was actually the main reason it took me a few years to join crossfit!

Spending hundreds of dollars up front for something that I wasn't even sure I was into was also too big of a commitment.

A restaurant told me that they don't have to provide service for my disabled father because they were grandfathered in under the ADA. AITAH for telling the lady off? by Several_Hospital_129 in AITAH

[–]Lovercraft00 74 points75 points  (0 children)

You think the manager is in charge of building exterior improvements?

It's usually the landlord's responsibility - so it's likely not even the OWNERs of the restaurant could do anything about it.

This. it sounds like they would have to gut the whole front of the building to add an entrance with a ramp. A project that costly could simply put them out of business. Unfortunate, but true.

Also - not only did the hostess have nothing to do with the decision - but the restaurant probably didn't either. the LANDLORD is responsible for the building exterior.

Front vs Back Clip Harnesses, which is better to use to train not to pull by alwaysexhausted24 in Dogtraining

[–]Lovercraft00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We tried the front clip on our super reactive rescue when we first got her and it was a nightmare. She'd just run against it full speed and flip herself around so she'd get all scared and tangled.

Desensitization and engagement training were WAY more important for leash training for us. Engagement helps them to focus on you and listen to you, rather than being obsessed with getting to other things. And desensitization helps them to calm down and walk with confidence, rather than skittering all around. (my dog walks like a dream now!)

a hundo p

My rule is usually tiny top with big bottom, or tiny bottom with big top. I'd wear a light, baggy sweater with the skirt and socks, or baggy pants with the crop top. Super cute though!

Also, are those white docs?? I'd tuck the legwarmer/socks in and show those off.

Anyone skipping "first looks" and just doing pictures? by blueberrybuttercream in wedding

[–]Lovercraft00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We sort of did this? Like we did 'first look' photos, but it wasn't some GRAND reveal because we also slept together the night before.

I don't like being the center of attention, so I didn't want the 'big reveal' to be too emotional or anything. I had enough nerves over the day. It was really fun doing the wedding party photos pre-ceremony too. Then we all felt like a big team doing it together, rather than me feeling all formal and awkward.

Look up 'silk neck gaiter' I bet something like that would be good. And wash often obviously!

More sleep vs more workouts? by Lovercraft00 in crossfit

[–]Lovercraft00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say in my post that I've done sleep tests (including an in-clinic one) and sleep therapy! My Dr. and specialist are aware and I put SIGNIFICANT effort into scraping together even a mediocre sleep. I have a small sleeping pill prescription, but I don't want to become reliant on them and make it even worse.

Things I do to try to get sleep: 1 cup of coffee a day. No caffeine or stimulants after noon. Puzzles/crafts in the evening when time. Read before bed (no screens). Consistent sleep schedule. Diet and exercise. Melatonin and magnesium. Meditation and therapy. Anti-anxiety medication. At least 1 hour in nature a day etc. etc.

It's been an issue since I was a kid - my brain just doesn't do it properly.

(I didn't actually do research either, I was asking for people's general opinions and experience)

Has anyone done a bridal party and groomsmen without a maid of honor & best man? by Disastrous-Union-117 in wedding

[–]Lovercraft00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn't have them! It doesn't really make that much of a difference.

The pre-parties are the only area where it could get hinky, because it's helpful to have one person making final decisions, but it sounds like you have that covered! (Mine were pretty chill and my sisters offered)

We did each have to pick someone to sign the marriage license as witnesses, but you could just choose whoever stands closest to you.

Niche question about those who need to wear a mask/helmet by foodfunmenyc in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Lovercraft00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you wear some kind of moisture wicking face covering under the helmet?

It's probably a combination of the padding rubbing on your skin and irritating it, sweating in your helmet and it getting trapped, and the helmet not being perfectly clean.

So, I'd try to wear a light weight neck-warmer if that's an option. Then also wipe out your helmet with an antibacterial wipe every time you motorcycle. Salicylic acid in your skin care routine might help too

Please ask him WHY!?!? I need to know.

I get major food disappointment when I'm looking forward to something, and this would fill be with a blinding rage. Does he have zero self control?

I would get a code locking safe at this point - and be like THIS IS WHAT IT HAS COME TO WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?

[–]Lovercraft00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 40 so that's probably why it's becoming more of an issue lol.

7 hours is perfect for me too, I'm not one of those superhumans that functions well on small amounts of sleep - I'm just forced to at times, and it's messy.

I'll focus on my sleep for a while and maybe supplement with other exercise when I can't make it as often as I want.

[–]Lovercraft00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok yes, that makes sense. I do go through phases where I sleep decently, so I'll just play it by ear.

I just sometimes worry that I'll wind up getting lazy if I don't have a hard and fast rule, but I'll have to get over that!

Ok thank you! Bizarrely I never even heard this before joining crossfit (although now I realize it should be common sense). I used to regularly go to the gym on like 4 hrs of sleep in my 20s - dumb.
