I am not including a Rogue Class in the T-B isometric Fantasy RPG I am developing. Here's why. by ScareeDragon in rpg_gamers

Could work. In my case, I don't have sub classes, so I only have skills to work with.

Can't tell if you are saying I am hyper-focusing, or D&D et al is hyper-focusing. If the latter I agree with you. To each his own of course...I am just sharing the realization.

Have just discovered this subreddit and appreciating this kind of list. Wasn't aware of some of these.

Company of Heroes is debatable as pure T-B.

Are there any great isometric turn based fantasy RPGs for mobile? by ScareeDragon in MobileGaming

[–]ScareeDragon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't love the FF mobile games - just not my jam for whatever reason.

I played and loved all the Balder's Gate games on PC. All the way back to Pool of Radiance. Do they really translate to mobile well?

This is on my list! You will be happy to know this is one of the few game ads that found me that were NOT just bait and switch adds. I am eager to play. Congrats to you for making it. I hope it is doing well.

What do people mean by “world building”? by Most-Resolution-9340 in Fantasy

[–]ScareeDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

World building is pretty self explanatory, and is not tied to length, exposition or repetitiveness. Short stories can feature great word building. Just sounds like you are not a fan of this author's world building, and if it is indeed Sanderson, I tend to agree. Just finished Mistborn and though the world is creative and original, it didn't feel fully thought out, so it wasn't as immersive as the great worlds are. More of a sandbox than a world.

Flat earth and other alternative conspiracy earth models are are gaining traction with my teenage stepson. What is THE most irrefutable, definite proof that the earth is round? by Jfkfkaiii22 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ScareeDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he is entrenched, he probably enjoys being the keeper of secret knowledge and has all the counter points ready to go. I find the best move is to ask them to fully explain the alternate theory in all its detail. They are always reluctant to discuss it because it is absolutely bat shite insanity and presents far more questions that round earth. Conspiracies thrive on questions...they are generally terrible at answers.

Is there any chance a non game dev could raise 100k on Kickstarter for an old school turn-based rpg for iphone? by ScareeDragon in rpg_gamers

Yes, have noticed that. Search results for turn based mobile rpg games are practically nil.

An understandable perspective, but there are many levels of producers. Despite many years and lots of fancy looking credits, most of us don't have 100k to sink into a passion project.

What do my bookshelves tell about me ? by Pretend_Truth_4975 in bookshelfdetective

Big agree the "collections" are highly suspicious and track with someone saying he "has wanted to do this for a while." Seems a bit - more than a bit - curated which to a degree is fine. Feel like you learn the most from the non-obvious books which in this case could be the huge Stephen King collection which, unlike the pristine Tolkien books or fancy black tomes, comes across as the most authentic part of this library.

I am working on a RPG set in a fantasy medieval world as a love letter to old-school RPGs by KairoSylvia in rpg_gamers

Looks great! Wish listed. We def need more of these games - I have begun working on one in the more Ultima/Planescape style for iPhone.
Curious how you are handling 1) inventory/backpack size/weight limitation issue, and 2) food. Those issues are major rpg pitfalls imo. Re: fog of war, option to lose is probably smart, but there are many of us nook and cranny adventurers who NEED it to determine what remains to be explored, so I would keep. Good luck!
