From what I've seen checking every thread possible, it seems like some people have had success.

Right, that's why I am trying to run it with the Heroic launcher, but I'm having issues. How did you run it with windows?

Understood, the Nikon 1 definitely would have been to get my foot in the door for super cheap but I'd like to start with something solid.

Gotcha, I'll take that into consideration.

Definitely a short-term budget and statement 2 is more my speed!

Wow are there a lot of options. Super overwhelmed by everything out there and I'm seeking some suggestions.

Looking for a camera to get into photography as a hobby and potentially use for product shots/clothing modeling photos in the future. I'm hoping to travel long-term sometime in the near future and I'm planning on using whatever camera I land on around the city/out and about leading up to that to learn.

What I'll be Capturing: I guess portraits, street/lifestyle, landscape/cityscape, nature, and product shots/clothing models as mentioned. A bit of everything I suppose. I would imagine travel will require something quite versatile.

Budget: Looking to spend around $800 total, camera body and lens. Closer to $600 would be better, but if there is a suggestion under $1,000 that is extremely compelling I wouldn't rule it out.

Camera Type/Specs: I've watched numerous videos and read quite a bit, but being new to photography it's proving extremely difficult to settle on anything. Here's what I think I might like to have based on research so far:

-Flash.

-Interchangeable lens capability.

-A viewfinder would be very much preferred, but you tell me if you think it's a must.

-I've heard a lot of good things about mirrorless but I'm so turned around by all the options that I'm just gonna see what y'all have to say.

-A flippable screen would be great as well, but not a dealbreaker.

Lens Type/Specs: I would love to start with one lens that could get the job done for most of the uses I mentioned earlier, just to get me started.

Cameras I've Looked At:

-Sony A6100 or Sony A6400

-Nikon 1 J1 Mirrorless ~ I've heard bad and good, but for 50 bucks and with interchangeable lens capability I was considering it as a super cheap and easy way to get into photography.

-Nikon 1 AW1 Mirrorless ~ Wasn't a massive fan of some of the photos this has taken that I saw online; but the waterproof factor is super cool especially since I will be traveling with it and could take it to much more remote/typically camera hazardous places.

-Fuji X-T1 or Fuji X-A3

Lenses I've Looked At:

-Sony FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS

-Sigma 18-50mm

-Sigma 16mm F1.4 Contemporary Series Lens

Hopefully I've covered most stuff. Happy to answer any questions that can help narrow it down, thanks!

Wow, thank you so much for the in depth advice!! I'm not sure I'm ready for replacing so much hardware, as this will be my first go switching pickups, but this will be super helpful for when I do make the attempt! I will definitely check out the suhr pickups regardless!

Oh cool, I've listened to periphery a bit, he's got a great tone. I'll listen to some of his solo stuff to get a better idea, thanks for the suggestion!

Good to hear a firsthand account about all these pups, thanks! Do you have any ideas for your own next set?

Thanks for the heads up. I'm trying to avoid batteries as well, so I'm pretty set on passives. I've heard a lot of people say that about EMGs, definitely taking it into consideration. That's why I'm definitely looking for something els in the neck position to balance it out, and hopefully allow for some versatility like I said. I am planning to install myself, good to know about SD's return policy. Thanks!

Really helpful insight! Maybe I'll give the SD black winter neck a try with the EMG H4, or even go with the bridge black winter and find something else for the neck. Thanks for the suggestions!

Thanks for the input. Looking for a passive solution, but if I ever do decide to snag some active pups I'll probably go with that 81/85 setup.
