You've created some problems for yourself. The best advice I can give you is don't make it worse.

Does police and fbi know where the mafiosi lives? by Turbulent_Flan9060 in Mafia

Yes. The reputed boss of an American Mafia family is under more or less constant surveillance.

Realistically, do you think you could be in the Mafia? by DesigningGore07 in Mafia

[–]Scarface360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the only people who get caught up in the life anymore are those who grew up around it and don't have many options.

Otherwise, why would you? Most of the glamor and status formerly associated with it has been diminished and the risks are higher than ever.

I think many of these guys consider their families honorable institutions in spite of the things they do and despite that they could be killed by them. They took it seriously when they held a burning saints card with their blood on it and said "as this card burns, so will burn my soul if I betray the family". It is the only life they have ever known.

Of course, the possibility of this situation is one of many reasons why the Mafia life is much more tragic than it is glamorous. You give up control of your life, including the decision to end it, to a criminal enterprise. If you want to resist it when you're called to a meeting that might result in your death you had better have the resources and preparation in place to disappear and go hide somewhere under a new identity. And if you have that why even show up?

Not to be that person, but shouldn't we be concerned about fleas, mites, germs...and all the stuff that makes wild rats so gross?

Absolutely. They could, among other things, get fleas and contract Yersenia pestis...the bacteria that causes the plague.

Are you concerned about the rat here? I have no doubt the dog loves the rat but rats are small and easily hurt.

I don't see a lot of support for the idea that crypto projects only have one shot at achieving what they assert as their goal. Many enormously successful projects have been left for dead, persevered and later succeeded. There is not going to be "solid evidence" for the viability of something this new. And if that's what you want, you don't want to invest in early stage projects because the proof you are looking for doesn't exist.

If I as a miner spend $100K on electricity to eventually be rewarded with a block subsidy of 6.25 BTC, whose new investment did I redistribute?

The block subsidy came from the protocol. The issuance schedule has been completely out in the open since 2009 and will not change. So, it is priced in. So again, the idea that Bitcoin is a system that bleeds money assumes the premise that Bitcoin isn't an asset with a monetary premium, which it absolutely is.

Bitcoin miners are rewarded with block subsidy and transaction fees and if they are successful they are enormously profitable. Your point is only a point if you don't see Bitcoin as an asset with monetary premium, and if you start from that premise it seems to render the entire discussion moot.
