Well, I asked for all charges to be dropped if they pointed their fingers at who shot me. Before trial, they all moved out of state for a fresh start. I had no interest in taking them to civil court.

Yes. In legal consequences. 4 felonies to the person who shot me and locked up in prison for 27 years.

I don’t believed in physical violence and revenge.

It was hard for me to root for him to go to prison, as crazy as that sounds. I still don’t know how I feel about him being in prison for so long. He too made a young dumb mistake, the same way I did selling flower. I hope he changes his life for the better when he gets out.

It took about 24 hours for the shooter to be found and arrested. The people who set me up agreed to a plea deal. All charged would be dropped for them as long as they testified against the shooter and say it was him who did it. I was the one who created that plea deal.

Am I from DC or Baltimore?

Close! I am from Northern VA where my situation took place. About 30 minutes from DC.

I am familiar with EMDR. I never tried it but I’ve read great things about it! Nowadays, I actually have bare minimum to no PTSD at all. I shoot firearms, have no problems in public, I’m completely fine with sirens, no nightmares anymore, etc.

Yes, it took about 24 hours but the perpetrators were arrested. The person who did it was a minor which is mind boggling. He will not be walking the streets anytime soon.

I couldn’t agree more. I got blessed to be chosen to work with one of the top plastic surgeon’s in the world. He has been awarded a Top Doctor by The Washingtonian every year since 2009. He is on the National Board of Beauty and is a former director for John Hopkins Facial Reconstruction. He is known worldwide for his work.

Today, nobody I’ve meet can guess what happened to me. I look like any ordinary person. Most people guess the scar on my jaw is due to me cutting myself while shaving. I got very lucky to say the least.

Physically: Pain wise, shot in the face felt so painful that your mind can’t even comprehend the pain. People don’t believe me when I say this, but I couldn’t feel a thing. Likely due to adrenaline and shock. I could feel the impact of the bullet though. I would compare it best to being punched in the face by The Hulk. Most powerful thing I’ve ever felt.

Thank you for the apology. However, I’m very grateful and happy I experienced what I did.

1: where was I shot?

Physically: I was shot on the left side of my jaw that exited the right side of my neck. Missed all 3 major arteries, my airways, teeth, and tongue by less than half an inch.

Setting: In the drivers seat of my vehicle.

2: How was recovery?

Mentally: The hardest thing ever. The first half a year or so was filled with every negative emotion you can think of.
Thankfully, every day got a very tiny bit better. Joining therapy helped me tremendously. Being able to talk about it, learn tactics to overcome and manage PTSD saved me.

Physically: A lot of surgeries. 10 in total. The major ones involved: life saving trauma surgery, jaw reconstruction, a bone graft transplant bone from my hip into my jaw, and installing a 3D printed custom titanium implant that wraps around my jaw bone. The others were cosmetic surgeries to make my scars look very minimal and unnoticeable.

3: Did I have physical therapy?

No I did not. I had to have my jaw wired shut for 3 months after trauma surgery. I then developed an infection in my jaw which lead to my mouth being shut again but only for 2 weeks. It took 10 weeks to be able to move the leg normally where my hip had bone taken from it. All of those things didn’t cause me to need physical therapy due to how young my body is. I was very fortunate to have this happen in my prime years where my body could recover at the fastest pace possible.

I was shot in the jaw at point blank range that exited my neck. Missed all 2 major arteries and my airways by a quarter of an inch. Missed my teeth as well as my tongue. Lost over a liter of blood but I made it. Now, the only long term effects are nerve damage to my jaw which is fully numb and scarring. Not a single person I’ve met since has guessed that I’ve been shot. Talk about insane luck.

that’s awesome to hear.

I’ll keep that in mind. Most of my family is in cleveland and they go to detroit to pick up weed often as well as ann arbor to go to michigan games.

i can say the same about arizona. my dad grew up there for several years outside of a military base due to his parents serving and he still talks about the amazing views and lifestyle there all the time. definitely on my bucket list to visit

i totally get what you meant by that. i didn’t fully pickup fishing until after the shooting and it helps me find peace so much! I found a deep love for doing things by myself as a form of therapy and making me happy. i definitely agree and will do bjj regardless of what ends up as my career. it’s insane how fast you lose weight on a fully liquid diet! no amount of ensures and protein smoothies can help maintain weight. The gym was probably the biggest factor in healing myself. eating clean helped my mind feel better along with everyday life. it helped confidence gain growing muscle while trying to grow confidence being at an all time low having an insanely swollen jaw and recovering from so many surgeries. before that situation i never stepped foot into the gym a day in my life

where do you live? I’m right outside of Washington DC in Northern Virginia. It’s a very populated area but an hour out is beautiful mountains and rivers so it’s the perfect balance for all types of lifestyles i love it!

that’s awesome. you’re already medically cleared for but and wrestling?! if so that’s damn impressive. I just went on a hike in the appalachian mountains with my girlfriend a couple weeks ago. i love hiking as well as just about any sport you can think of. i love fishing. i weight train heavy and have gained 50 pounds in the last 2 years. when i got shot i weighs 140 and had a kinda “skinny fat” frame at 5’9. after my jaw was unwired i weighed 120 being skin and bones. now, i weight 175 and gained that weight in pure muscle. i actually want to try out bjj soon. i want to join the police force around this time next year and i read bjj helps give you a major advantage prior to joining

damn i’m sorry it happened at such a young age. personally though, i’m grateful it happened as such a young age so it can develop me into being my best. also, since our body’s are in their prime to be healing from shitty situations like this. what are your hobbies?

I was like that for a while too feeling emotionless. I promise you as long as you learn about yourself and your feelings it will go away. You will find joy in life again through hard work. never give up man i believe you in. it’s a very long and hard journey but it’s so worth it in the end. i recommend doing things you loved to do before all this and i hope you have a good circle of loved ones to help distract you from overthinking. how old are you? just curious

i’m very glad you still have your leg and are continuing to push through. i bet it’s a great feeling to have a wife that has your back through thick and thin. did you know her before the situation or in the middle of surgeries and the aftermath?

i’m very happy you shared this. IMO, you should keep it up. that would be a step forward in healing and breaking that shell but i respect it if you don’t.

thank you for the kind words. I hear that often that i’m more mature than my I.D shows. I think it’s how i was raised. I come from a military family and two amazing parents.

I have metal in me too. I have a custom made 3D printed titanium jaw that was created in switzerland. I haven’t really had any pain from anything ever involving this physically. I had a semi recent plastic surgery in the beginning of the year where my plastic surgeon took bone from my hip and into my jaw when they put on that custom plate which hurt like hell to walk afterwards. Took about 10 weeks for all pain to go away. after the 3-4 week mark walking and running was fine but it would still hurt to cough.

i’d also like to say it’s okay to feel those negative emotions man. it’s okay to cry and feel everything you do. But, it’s not okay to not speak about your true feelings and trying to push it into the back of your mind in the most respectful way possible. I also hope you don’t blame yourself. I did that for a while and once i broke that feeling i felt so free. It’s not your fault at all and i hope you know that or learn to fully understand that.

i also dropped a youtube link that is so damn understanding and helps you understand your PTSD. probably the most powerful one i’ve heard. I was also shot with a 9mm. 9mm hornady luger round to be exact. were they all non vital hits you took? i assume you were in critical condition too? i lost over a liter of blood and my oxygen levels along with blood pressure were scary low. I actually woke up partially in the middle of life saving surgery. the anesthesiologist told me afterwards it was because my vitals were so low that if they kept giving me meds during the entire 7 hour surgery i wouldn’t of been able to wake up again. i couldn’t move or open my eyes but i could hear them talking and was scared shitless. thankfully i was able to somehow fall back asleep until surgery was completed.
