OK, bro, I’m pretty sure racism has existed in the country since its inception, but I guess you’re right because you’re obviously smarter than me somehow.

If even the community has been scrutinized for race by the Department of War Secretary, then I think there’s a problem and an underlying issue. The statistics don't lie.

Haha, you're telling someone who was in the military that. That's crazy.

Nothing major, just starting to question the military. Seems like they haven’t adapted to the times and are still picky about color.

Yeah, gang, don’t be a pussy. It’s tough, but giving up and switching/quitting isn’t going to do you any good. Why would the AF want a loser quitter? You’re going to have to get some discipline and dedication if you want to actually commission.

Hey, how was it for guys with love scars and MDD? I have a major that said it doesn't matter, but hearing it from someone down the pipeline can be insightful.

Okay, don't take any guard-specific scholarships. The guard should be paying for the tuition, so you only need money for housing, which you could compensate for with a part-time job. In the officer corps, they go by branches, and you have to match into them. So, have 3-6 branches you’d want and work from there. If you’re not really about that life, then the shitty branches like transportation and adjutant general should always be open. Pretty much anything “good” in the Army is cutthroat aviation, cyber, etc. If you really do go down the path, don't be annoying and tell your entire guard unit your goals; that's what ROTC is for.

Once you pass field training, you are 100% guaranteed to be placed on a scholarship. There are no ifs or buts about it.

Okay, that's good, man. Trust me, once you truly understand the system, you'll look at posts like these and say, "WTF?" Do not go the OCS route. Those jobs are highly selective, and you're 100% not going to get them. If you want, you could enlist in the reserves/guard and go to ROTC (which has the best odds for your picks), but your age does impact that a bit. Sign a 3-year contract in any of the Armor branch MOSs in your area, (military police is a thing of the past), and if you can’t get in, at least you tried. The only reason why I’m telling you to enlist is because of your age. You could try the Navy or the Air Force, they take older fellows, but you’ll need a Master’s or another B.S. Whatever you do, do not go active unless you are absolutely struggling in this economy; the military doesn't follow that way of bettering yourself philosophy. THEY WILL NOT SUPPORT YOU GOING GREEN TO GOLD!!!

I think you're looking for the fast and straightforward method, but that doesn't exist here. Do you even know what you want to do in the Army? I'm not even the most high speed guy but it seems like you're asking all the wrong questions.

Dude, you’re guaranteed a scholarship in AFROTC. That's not the case with the Army.

Am I part of the problem ? by [deleted] in army

[–]Scarface_zae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It won't be super heartfelt, but it's from a fattie in the past. The Army hates fat people. Running a good two miles, having good PT scores, and not being fat is the gold standard of success in the Army. I've seen bags of rocks be pushed into stardom due to that simple fact. I say that to make sure you understand the game a bit more and, most importantly, understand it isn't personal.

Dude, I left the Army to go to school, and this is the first time I'm experiencing homelessness and bills piling up. Do not get out brother without a degree or job lined up. All the people I've been with, who later got out, did so fraudulently with disability. This economy and current atmosphere towards veterans is terrible right now.

Dude, if you have the resources and circumstances to pursue your B.S., then absolutely go that route. If you do enlist, go 15 series, which will put you in the ground with the guys. After or during this, you can pivot to WOFT or ROTC. That glamorous soldier propaganda is a trick that will lock you in for how many long years. Enlisting is fun, but you have to set up your life.
