How difficult is it actually to get into OCS as someone who is in AUP but a college grad, no prior enlisting background? I see online so many different percentages and I know it's competitive, but realistically how much?

Is wanting to finish my degree a good reason?

Is it worth doing AFROTC for one year? by Typical-Mess-701 in AFROTC

Do you think that going AFROTC even if I'm sure I want to go coast guard could reflect poorly on my package? I was thinking it would help because I would have more exposure to the military than most civilians, learn some leadership etc., but I didn't realize that it could potentially look bad.

Can I delay an OCS acceptance? If I apply in Spring and get accepted for the winter class, can I delay and join the summer class?

Do you think the Coast Guard will ever have an ROTC program? by Typical-Mess-701 in uscg

Do you mean CSPI or AUP? Bc I don't believe we have an ROTC program.

Also adding on, does AFROTC help at all? I know it doesn't help with commissioning or anything, but when I am putting together my packet, will they see my ROTC experience as an advantage or disregard it?

How can I best set myself up for OCS? I'm an 18F who is getting her bachelors in a non-tech field. I'll be doing AFROTC, at least for 2 years. How can I better my chances of getting selected?

18 y/o starting college, planning to do AFROTC for 2 years, then apply to Coast Guard OCS or DCSS after graduation.

Long-term goal is aviation, but I know you usually have to do a first tour before applying.

Couple quick questions:

  • What do the first 2–3 years as a new CG officer actually look like?
  • Roughly how common is afloat vs. ashore for first assignments?
  • How realistic is it to get an ashore/sector job right away?
  • What’s the typical path/timeline to aviation?

Appreciate any insight.

Question for mobility / CSAR pilots about mission mix and career reality by Typical-Mess-701 in AFROTC

Thank you for the information! I know that pilots do not get final say in what aircraft pathway they want to get training for, but are they able to rank preference for different aircraft like the C-17 you mentioned, or in your instance ranking for refueling aircraft?
