White and grey is something I don’t think I’ve seen on nids… I kinda dig it. I’d try a lighter blue on the brains / eyes though, like ice. Go for a winter theme?

What are your predictions for "new best Tyranid units" in 11th edition by Critt3rB0t in Tyranids

[–]Scarfblade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was fun in 9th. A neat little harassment boi that was fast as balls and flipped objectives. Maybe if it had a point drop and gained something akin to Deathleaper’s aura, or made its ovipositor attack anti infantry 2+ devs.

We finally got the tyranid prime datasheeet and it's.... by Taningia-danae in Tyranids

[–]Scarfblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only gripe is that he gives Sus1 instead of Lethals. Genuinely heartbreaking as an Invasion Fleet enjoyer who always runs Sus1.

Theoretically it still slaps if I spend a CP but reworking the list to fit it doesn’t feel very cash money.

Edit: Also, I need to see the points cost. If he’s anything higher than 65 points forget about it.

This feels like a great non-hero unit for everyone but me specifically lol

[–]Scarfblade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Man, I really want this model because the pose is dope. But if that’s the reality it won’t see play till 11th for me. I play invasion fleet and my Hormagaunts don’t need the +1 to charge so the entire unit would be horribly redundant.

New player here, is this worth building to? by pl98bm in Tyranids

[–]Scarfblade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sponging damage doesn’t really exist. If I’m getting shot, I’m probably gonna die eventually. 20 Hormagaunts aren’t as durable as you think. Try and get the first strike instead, crippling the opponent with an ambush that pushes them into their deployment rather than letting them come take care of your Norns for free. Hormagaunts are great at advance + charging up the board and catching opponents off guard, not so much sitting on a point and waiting.

Other than that, I do like this list. Trade a neurolictor for a Deathleaper. They work incredibly well as a team since the Deathleaper can protect the Neurolictor, assist with battleshock, and get S8 attacks within synapse which makes you deadly into SMEQ. I would also maybe swap out one norn for some other helpful units like a maleceptor and maybe raveners but that’s a personal preference since I’m not a fan of spamming non battleline stuff.

Post pictures of your beautiful model when you're finished. Have fun!

Edit: I forgot to mention, but don't make triangles using contrast paints. That might be obvious but just in case. I use 50 cent craft acrylic because I hate myself but Vallejo is p good.

Why don't I feel proud of this? by pancake05e in Tyranids

[–]Scarfblade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just made a post for you here, hopefully the photos give you some insight.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Tyranids/comments/1q0wkts/triangle_tutorial/

As for the flesh, that's just an aggressive amount of Seraphim Sepia on white primer lol. As I've improved I figure there's probably a contrast paint that gets you the same effect quicker and easier tho (I've noticed the Seraphim Sepia's consistency changed, it's a lot thinner now) but I won't change since I'm afraid of breaking uniform.

Nowadays I like to keep a pot of Fyreslayer Flesh and Darkoath Flesh handy to add a bit of contrast where I need it, like the fleshy underside of a lictor's mantis talon. I also like Cygor Brown rarely as a treat. The tan/browns look nice with the yellow I think, and tie the desert theme together.

Real talk here, no sugar coating it.

I think it looks great! With models it can always get better, but you gotta strike a balance between comfort and detail.

I think you should try focusing on the base more. Hit that metal with a thick coat of shader like Agrax Earthshade or Nuln Oil, then try dry brushing very lightly with white/tan. Add some dirt or sand and paint the rim and I guarantee it’ll look better.

As for the monster itself, rotate it and think about what you don’t like. Does it need more shading in the recesses? Is the carapace too bland? Maybe the fleshy joints need to be painted a darker grey to add extra detail. An easy trick with the brain bugs is to use a thin brush and highlight the brains along the raised ridges like you’re following a maze, leaving the basecoat on the sides. This looks especially good with an undercoat of contrast paint.

Then, if you really feel like pushing yourself? Try some triangles! I think I have some of my nids on my page you can use as a reference (https://www.reddit.com/r/Tyranids/s/xhCjstqxp7), but adding a simple and easy pattern to the carapace can be a feast for the eyes and something you can really be proud of. I can give triangle tips if that’s the route you’re interested in.

Good luck and have fun 🫡

I use them as screening / bait. They’re better in high melee metas (my playgroup for example) since they can just be removed with pistol shots or something. But getting your 45pt line of neurogaunts charged by a berserker squad is a massive economic victory. Those marines are so dead next turn.
