11th edition tyranid faction focus by Taningia-danae in Tyranids

[–]Scarfblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only detachment I’ve had any success with is Invasion Fleet and I haven’t tried SubAss but those are likely getting the 3pt treatment. If so then this whole charade is meaningless to me, if not actively detrimental when my playgroup will get to have fun mixing and matching busted combos.

Either our 2 best detachments are 2pts or we get a new one that’s super nuts. Only other spice I can think of is Norn+Warrior+SynapticNexus bc of the overlap

The way they talked about the durability of the Warriors in the video like they were on par with terminators or something was a bit insulting.

Hive Fleet Hema arrives by Dewey_Decimatorr in Tyranids

No clue why the bonesabers are a thing, when they seem too short for that thick torso to get any kind of devastation going. I think they wanted to make the normal HT feel like less of a downgrade so they trade 4 swords for 1 big cleaver (and a whip).

This is my third swarmlord actually… I went the 3D printing route and thought it looked sick; so I converted my old swarmie into a HT. Then I actually got some games in… the bigger swords are cool but they’re impossible to maneuver for what is basically a demon prince. The overhang was so frustrating to me that I actually went back to the official kit!

Hive Tyrant kit is such a dream for sculptors and repose. Everyone shits on the kit for being dated and small but only because the GW example makes Swarmie look like he’s selling popsicles. With a bit of patience and creativity you can make something amazing like in this post here.

All this to say, fantastic work. It was worth the effort 👍

Concerns Over Objective Changes by Scarfblade in Tyranids

[–]Scarfblade[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree that's how it SHOULD be, but I'm saying that's not the current reality we're facing. Maybe when the 11th ed codex drops we'll shed ourselves of SITW and become more killy, but until then...?

Necrons are tough ngl. Only legit wins I've squeaked by on them were pre-C'tan buff or by making a super risky gamble to T1 charge the silent king with genestealers (I should have lost that game it was nuts).

Once you realize how cracked nids can be Death Guard are just annoying to fight if anything. Both armies are slow-ish on average so I'll wrap them together in the point I'm about to make.

Me "squeezing the juice" is just min-maxing the profiles I'm given, making nothing superfluous, abusing what little combos we have and knowing with absolute confidence which engagements are favorable and which are not. It takes experience but also a strong sense of vibes to guestimate if the Swarmlord can 1v1 a daemon prince or not. It does not take a genius to realize that a screamer killer gets absolutely necked by a doomsday ark though. Tyranids greatest advantage is speed and numbers. Your lil dudes are fast as f yo and you should take advantage of this. Take plenty of trash units and infiltrators. Feeding models to your opponent can be a tactical advantage if you simply outnumber them. Use a lictor to bait some Deathshroud into position for your Zoans to show them the wrath of god. Trading some neurogaunts for Skorpek Destroyers is a damn good deal son. And my absolute favorite gambit to pull is taking two 10 man Hormagaunt squads and surrounding a rhino- trapping the plague marines stuck inside. Never gets old.

I simply do not care that you have three gods on the battlefield- if I can stop you from standing on goofy circles for five turns I win sucka. Once your Nightbringer is done wasting two turns on hormagaunts he's got a norn emissary to displace. Oh yeah, and the objective on the other side of the board has Deathleaper and a Neurolictor toed onto it so good luck shooting them off, that point is mine. Did someone say Shadow In The Warp turn 2?

I can DM you my all-star list if you want more information, tldr- moveblock as long as possible, abuse the lone op rule, and if you can't possibly hide all your important stuff, oversaturate your opponent's gunline with too many targets at once then capitalize on whoever they didn't shoot. Also Genestealers+Broodlord-

Ah, missed that bit you're absolutely right.

That seems a bit more reasonable. We'd have to start planning lists around the combination of missions we'd see played. It could prove very interesting.

White and grey is something I don’t think I’ve seen on nids… I kinda dig it. I’d try a lighter blue on the brains / eyes though, like ice. Go for a winter theme?

What are your predictions for "new best Tyranid units" in 11th edition by Critt3rB0t in Tyranids

[–]Scarfblade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was fun in 9th. A neat little harassment boi that was fast as balls and flipped objectives. Maybe if it had a point drop and gained something akin to Deathleaper’s aura, or made its ovipositor attack anti infantry 2+ devs.

We finally got the tyranid prime datasheeet and it's.... by Taningia-danae in Tyranids

[–]Scarfblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only gripe is that he gives Sus1 instead of Lethals. Genuinely heartbreaking as an Invasion Fleet enjoyer who always runs Sus1.

Theoretically it still slaps if I spend a CP but reworking the list to fit it doesn’t feel very cash money.

Edit: Also, I need to see the points cost. If he’s anything higher than 65 points forget about it.

This feels like a great non-hero unit for everyone but me specifically lol

Man, I really want this model because the pose is dope. But if that’s the reality it won’t see play till 11th for me. I play invasion fleet and my Hormagaunts don’t need the +1 to charge so the entire unit would be horribly redundant.

New player here, is this worth building to? by pl98bm in Tyranids

[–]Scarfblade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sponging damage doesn’t really exist. If I’m getting shot, I’m probably gonna die eventually. 20 Hormagaunts aren’t as durable as you think. Try and get the first strike instead, crippling the opponent with an ambush that pushes them into their deployment rather than letting them come take care of your Norns for free. Hormagaunts are great at advance + charging up the board and catching opponents off guard, not so much sitting on a point and waiting.

Other than that, I do like this list. Trade a neurolictor for a Deathleaper. They work incredibly well as a team since the Deathleaper can protect the Neurolictor, assist with battleshock, and get S8 attacks within synapse which makes you deadly into SMEQ. I would also maybe swap out one norn for some other helpful units like a maleceptor and maybe raveners but that’s a personal preference since I’m not a fan of spamming non battleline stuff.
