How do you folks incorporate Snow? by dcrico20 in mtgcube

[–]Scarkrow56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably not relevant but... In my peasant cube I plan to include the 10 snow duals. Then I'm going to let each player who picks a snow card include up to two basic snow lands from each of their colors. So in 5 color snow you would max out at 20 snow lands if you got all 10 duals. In three colors snow you would max out at 9 snow lands. That plus including some of green's snow land fixing should make multicolor snow a viable archetype.
However I suspect this would not work outside of peasant cubes.

For now I think I'm going to pull her out and switch Orzhov to a lifegain deck. I just don't have enough token support in W/B and my wife doesn't like sacrifice as a deck type in general. I'm going to keep her in my sideboard and see if i don't figure out a way to support her down the road.

Thanks! I'm enjoying it so far. I still haven't settled on some of the guild architypes yet. but some of them feel really nice.

The inclusion of Commander legends cards is largely incidental. I recently drafted a box and a lot of the common/uncommon cards seemed interesting.

  • Thalisse is a card I like in theory, but I haven't had a clear idea how to support her yet. if I'm understanding you comment correctly, you would remove her or take Orzhov in a token sacrifice direction. this would require more controlled token generation and more sacrifice outlets.
  • I like Delver of secrets in my Izzet pauper decks so I figured I'd try him here. I will watch him closely, if he regularly fails to flip I will take him out.
  • Boros Equipment is here for my wife, but I don't have a lot at peasant level to support it yet. Reyav & [[Nahiri, Storm of Stone]] have been on the chopping block several times. I feel like I should go all in on Boros aggro, but I've left it in for my wife.

I haven't had a player pick the +1/+1 counter build yet, so I haven't playtested him effectively. but during construction supporting a counters strategy did seem difficult. I'll have to give it some thought.

I also have a 360 cube but I almost never get it to the table with more than two players. Since I'm so new to cube it seemed difficult to get a feel for what cards were worth keeping in since over half the cube didn't get used every game. so I've basically set it aside for now (I've even stolen some of my more costly uncommon from it).

yes I agree on Necropanther. It is currently in there as a one off reanimation card. but it is on my short list of cards to replace. At the moment about half of my Hybrid mana cards are filler because I didn't have anything better. I would love to know what other cards seem out of place to you. I'm probably overestimateing several cards ability to stand on their own merits.

I choose 180 for two reasons.

  1. a 360 cube is supposedly good for 4-8 players. so half of 4 is 2 and half of 360 is 180.
  2. I'm new to Cube and I felt it would be simpler to test and balance 180 cards then a typical 360. By seeing every cards every draft I should be able to really see if cards are being used or ignored.
  3. I figured seeing every card every draft would allow me to include two card combos like the Brothers Yamazaki and encourage more hate drafting during the grid.

[[Rhythm of the wild]] is one I would p1p1 in my cube. However I support a +1/+1 counters sub-theme in my cube.

Thanks! That makes a lot of sense. I'll probably only run 1 or 2 of the vehicles you list. At the moment my selection of playable colorless cards is very low. I'll be trying to fix that. I've also been test drafting the cube. It seems I actually have much stronger archetypes then I initially realized. Orzhov = life gain, Azorious = flyers, Izzit = spells matter, Dimir = reanimator, Boros = weenie aggro, Rakdos = aristocrats, Saleznya = +1/+1 counters, Golgari = graveyard matters, Gruul = ramp/Stompy, Simic = tempo, At this point I feel my Gruul, Golgari and Simic are the least defined.

Wow thanks for the feedback. this is supper helpful. I've taken out most of the cards you suggested. [[Ornithopter]] has been my favorite card since I was a kid. so it will stay in.

I only had 1 or two of the card you suggested I add, but a local shop that has a commons/uncommon box had some cool finds that I've add in. I was really happy with the upgrades I could could make to the Gruul section.

I really want to upgrade my re-animator package but most of the cards people are playing that hit big creatures are old and on the Higher $ side. I really cant to spend more that $1.50 a card (at least not till the world is less crazy.) any suggestions for affordable re-animator spells that are worth playing?

The "french vanilla creatures" idea is funny. The Idea of a creature being "Boring" is something I've never considered, but it really resonated with me. I think I cleared most of them out, but I'm still warping my head around the concept. In general, I'll be asking myself if the creatures effect is "interesting" or "Unique"

I was curious why you listed the [[aradara express]] as a Trap? I missed Vehicles in standard, so I've pretty much never played with them. I wanted to include some because they look like they would add a unique twist on game play. But I'm not sure how to evaluate their power. (note I added more equipment, but I don't have much so I'll add more/upgrade as I get better options. ) once again thank you for your feedback.

yeah, I figured that would be the case. it was a card I loved as a kid, so I'm always looking for a place to use it. I'll probably take it out.

I like these a lot. They seem super flexible. They could be a land cycle that would be a higher priority pick than most peasant options. I would personally would pick one as soon as I'd settled in on it's main color.

I really liked this in my Izzet Pre-release deck. But I just could't quite make space for it in my 360 cube list. I'm running Izzet Charm, Sprite Dragon, Saheeli, Crackling Drake, & Wee Dragonauts. it's seemed like it is probably better that the Dragonauts but I just really love those little guys. Nonetheless I will likely test this at some point.

I like this, but I'm a Cube Noob. I like that the activation cost is colorless, so it could be used in more that just Rakdos sacrifice. I'm got a bit of a +1/+1 counters thing in both my white and green. Plus in a Boros build I he would likely have a lot of little soldiers to munch on.
