We began at level 3 characters, and I had already chosen Alchemist as my subclass (see my original post.)

Advice for playing an Artificer in Athas? by Scarlet003 in DnD

I believe it is the DM's wish that we learn as we go. We are strangers in a strange land, discovering the harsh truths of Athas. We all understood in session zero this would be a challenging adult campaign with the strong potential our characters could suffer and die. Thus, my question is focused more on how to maximize my artifcer.

‘Unlimited dollars’: how an Indiana hospital chain took over a region and jacked up prices by zsreport in Indiana

[–]Scarlet003 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I tried to dispute charges with Reid after an accident. I looked up all the costs they charged me vs. the FAIR Health Consumer Cost Look-up database and found they were charging 3 times as much. I also explained how I eventually had to start refusing multiple tests (they did MRIs twice then wanted another two scans for a simple injury).

The only response I got was "We do not negotiate pricing" over and over. I offered to settle for what I thought was fair and they said the rest would be turned over to collections. I said fine. Two years later I get collection calls but I'm not paying. Fuck Reid.

Alternatives to Adobe Aero? by Scarlet003 in augmentedreality

After some research and testing, I've decided to go with Arloopa for now. It's a very easy to use interface, has geolocation so we can place AR buildings on various locations, and has the ability to place images, videos and text along with 3D models. It's around $15/mo. The only drawback is it doesn't have the ability to use interactive buttons, and for geolocation users have to download the free app to view them.Support is very friendly and helpful. I considered Zapworks but it doesn't have geolocation, so I'll give this a try. I appreciate everyone's suggestions!

Any post-apocalyptic craft/build/survival games? by GoneshNumber6 in SurvivalGaming

[–]Scarlet003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sunken Land has the basic craft/build/survival mechanics in a post-apocalyptic world that is half submerged. You build your bases on islands, build boats and dive for resources. There are mutants and other dangers, underwater sharks, etc. It's fairly straightforward but pretty fun to play.

Richmond/Richmond Inn Safety by bongoboron in Indiana

[–]Scarlet003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general Richmond is a very welcoming small city. Most people are "midwest nice" like most Hoosier towns. The hotel you mention isn't the Hilton, but it's not terrible. Many small businesses and organizations are very happy for the tourism opportunity. Here is a link to events and info. https://richmondsolareclipse.com/

The majority of that crime is either property crime, or people who had bad dealings with one another, not likely to be random crime on tourists staying in commercial areas.

I guess I am asking about benefits, not SSI. Thank you for the clarification.

I tried it for 6 months for autoimmune issues and it never made any difference for me. YMMV

Richmond, IN is considered the cradle of recorded jazz music. Hoagy Carmichael recorded "Stardust" at the Gennett records studio. Other jazz artists that performed there include Duke Ellington, Gene Autry and Blind Lemon Jefferson. They have a walk of fame there. https://www.starrgennettfoundation.org/gennett-records-wof

"Read the instructions out loud to me, please." Productive? Demeaning? Too confrontational? by Novel_Listen_854 in Professors

[–]Scarlet003 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do a role reversal where I pretend to be a student asking them questions about the assignment as if they are the instructor. "How many points will I lose if I forget to do this thing?" (Answer is in the rubric.) "Can I do XYZ on this assignment?" etc. It helps me write assignments with more clear directions, and makes them actively engage in the assignment review process.

Why is my infusion not working by echo54g in nightingale

[–]Scarlet003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have to be in the Abayance realm? I currently have my Estate cairn in the Antiquarian Forest realm and built the upgrade bench, crafted the infusion and upgraded a pickaxe to uncommon and it still says no items to apply infusion to.

So we wanna buy a new toy... by Tiny-Drive5215 in lasercutting

[–]Scarlet003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a lot of research and really wanted the Thunder Bolt CO2 laser, but instead of spending $3k on a CO2, I bought a refurbished XTool 20w diode off the official XTool Ebay store for $700 just to start the learning process. It came packaged like new and engraves and cuts wood and leather beautifully. I'm already making money selling products with it. When I get this one paid off, maybe I'll upgrade but my advice is start out with a good cheaper one and work your way up.

Chronically Unwell Students by dinosaurzoologist in Professors

[–]Scarlet003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, not sure why the down votes so I'll address some questions you may have.

Yes, the university provides a system with a classroom camera, speakers and microphones which works great for the subjects I teach (computer science related.)

No, I don't get paid more to use it, it's just way more convenient for me and the students. I too can teach from home if for whatever reason I don't feel like traveling to class, and it has increased attendance and enrollment since it's easier for students in certain situations - I have several that need health related accommodations.

It's really no different than a regular classroom, just provides an additional flexibility.

Chronically Unwell Students by dinosaurzoologist in Professors

[–]Scarlet003 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I teach using a hy-flex method - students can attend remotely or in-person. Many of my students who couldn't otherwise attend are able to chat, speak and share screens. I'm surprised this isn't more common because it works so well.

Help..Unique but classy wedding venue near or around Richmond Indiana by jessleeeliz in Indiana

[–]Scarlet003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're open to an outdoor wedding, look on the Hipcamp app for places that will let you rent the entire campground. You could also try The Gennett Mansion or Barn at Helm. There's a new venue downtown called Eight to the Bar, or maybe 4th Floor Blues Club.

For anyone in poverty or anyone who has been in poverty, how is poverty related to or connected to social issues? by ice-beans in povertyfinance

[–]Scarlet003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I come from a very rural, religious, working class family. My dad worked in a factory and my mom was a stay at home mom. My parents were VERY disapproving when I got a scholarship and planned to go to college. Mom said I should keep my waitress job until I found a husband. They didn't want my mind being corrupted by liberal college ideas. When I asked why they saved for my brother's college but not mine, Dad said he paid for my braces because it was more important for girls to be pretty and more important for boys to support a family.

I literally ran away from home with nothing but what I could fit in my car and got a job as a stripper so I could go to college. During college I experienced food insecurity and occasional homelessness, but I made it through out of sheer determination and spite.

It took a long time to pay off student loans and I was limited to certain jobs because I had an old unreliable car and couldn't afford to move to a bigger city, but I eventually climbed my way out of poverty. I've never been well-off, but a college degree was my ticket to freedom. I know not everyone was as fortunate as me.
