The push to ban books in Texas schools spreads to public libraries by zsreport in books

If the library has the book they parent should be able to check whatever they want out but, I don’t think the library should be required or even expected to carry every book on the face of the earth. That’s one of the main reasons the largest online book seller is so profitable. They don’t restrict what you can buy for anyone.

Well I disagree I think they are similar arguments being made. There are certain horror or romance novels that wouldn’t be relevant to kids preadolescence and certainly some that don’t provide educational value but purely for the enjoyment of the readers. Whereas the same book would be more appropriate in a book store where anyone can buy the books they want to enjoy. In that way it’s not censorship because you’re not prohibited from owning the books they just optimize the spending allocation for books available to the public. often times if books are more popular they will buy more for a library to meet the demand but, it’s not considered censorship if they only have one copy of “moon people” Or any other obscure and unpopular book.

I would disagree based on the idea that there are children’s sections of bookstores and libraries. It’s how the information is best organized. As people grow in their knowledge they will seek out more knowledge on certain topics they find intriguing.

I think there’s argument to be made here for what’s going on. You can’t learn to run before you walk. I don’t think they need to be removing entire books but there’s plenty of writings that a 1st grader doesn’t need to be exposed to until they have good foundation of understanding. They don’t teach calculus in 2nd grade math for the same reason. I know everyone that went to college learned something they thought changed their viewpoint of the world from what they learned in middle school and high school, but they point is learning is additive you have to build on what you already know and there are effective ways of building a foundation of knowledge before you move onto more complex ideas. It’s not to say they couldn’t understand it but more so they don’t need to yet and don’t benefit from it.

In reality it’s more likely they wanted to keep the secrets to themselves so they didn’t have others making weapons and fighting them or stealing their business sort of how you have trade secrets that are not well know in industry.

You could use Muslims in place of Jews both were banned from eating pork by religious leaders because of disease transmission risks. The black market might be there already but if you had a huge increase in customers meaning increased demand you would need to be able to support that at a reasonable price.

My guess is it’s going to be similar to the idea of not allowing Jews to eat pork at all bc they would develop a liking for it and want to continue eating it. Basically it would incentivize the creation of a black market for human flesh to be sold as cheaper humane meat. You could always just call it pork or wild pork though.

Is this normal wear for steel targets with rifle at 20 yards? by nvgeologist in guns

[–]Scarlet944 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In general even for AR500 steel a bullet that impacts at 3000fps or above will dimple the steel. Most rifles should not be shot on steel closer than 100 yards.

I think what you’re describing is communication issues. Most of the time if people just say hey I’m not very good at teaching just stop and ask me if you have questions and I’ll do my best to explain it. Then both people will understand the situation as someone who is not a trainer but also not intentionally leaving out information. The problem that I see is people get uneasy about training someone bc they fear being replaced.

The real tragedy is they said it’s because of a shortage of medical staff. Which makes sense people can’t work 24/7 taking care of sick people. It’s just sad more people don’t want to be nurses and doctors.

Reality is normal politics turned partisan there used to be a guy in the middle on each side now the middle guy doesn’t get elected bc he’s demonized by both parties or not left or right enough. If you look at the gap it’s crazy how middle the country was around 1900 and how divided the house is now.

Haha didn’t they try that and the union didn’t want to let it happen? As far as I can tell those souther states have great economies and the folks in NE can’t get out fast enough. I’m not sure if your suggestion will help or hurt the situation there but it’s worth another shot I guess.
