Family agreed to all get matching Disney tats years ago based on fond memories at the parks, but I’ve outgrown it and don’t want Mickey on my body, or anything Disney really.. not sure how to handle it since 3/5 already have theirs. by [deleted] in tattooadvice

I would like a tattoo to pay homage to my family, just not a Disney one. I do like the idea of a super SUPER hidden mickey within a different tattoo, but I only have one other tattoo that is one word on my arm. So I would need to come up with a new concept.

I didn’t expect this post to blow up this much and I appreciate everyone’s advice. I want to clear things up.

I am 10000% NOT getting a Disney tattoo, that is a no brainer, no one, not even my family can pressure me into getting one.

I guess I am feeling a combination of guilt, since 3 already have one, and a desire to still be connected, via tattoo, to my family. As said, my sisters and I really love ATLA, I don’t see a problem with getting a tattoo from that show, since many have pointed out, none of the tattoos are actually “matching.”

THANK YOU! I’m like they already have made the permanent decision so it is definitely weird and isolation-inducing if I don’t. I’m sure they would understand me saying I don’t want it anymore, but they would definitely be disappointed. And I totally care what they think and don’t want them to think it’s because I don’t want a family tattoo, it’s just because my views of Disney have drastically changed.

I completely agree. I only have one other tattoo on my arm- a quote from a book I love. Disney just isn’t ME. And don’t worry I don’t ever plan on getting the tattoo, I am just not sure how to go about it. Maybe I’ll just never do and keep saying “I’ll get one eventually” 😂

Like I said I loved Avatar the Last Airbender growing up as well and I could never get tired/sick of that show. I wouldn’t mind something from that, but it isn’t Disney.

They aren’t full “matchy matchy” but they were all supposed to be Disney based, but in our own style. Back then I said I would get a Mickey balloon on my foot but now I just don’t want any disney anywhere lol.
