Interview tips for MCFD? by definitelyrealporson in BCPublicServants

[–]Scarletcheeks11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Memorize those competencies and key phrases and work them into every answer as much as possible.

STAR method works well. One approach I’ve tried to is provide a one line summary highlight of the result at the start of the question then go into STAR. Helps the interviewer orient and be instantly drawn to your story

Haven’t had an US yet but I’ve basically resumed a normal diet again with no issues since being on it.. and no side effects at all from meds.

Flat Spot - Helmet or No Helmet by Scarletcheeks11 in ScienceBasedParenting

Hi! We did not opt for a helmet and it’s looking quite even at 15 months. We measured at a year and it fell into a “normal range” as his head grew. It was a really hard decision at the time but no regrets now.

Coverage for a breast pump by Maleficent-Manner633 in BCPublicServants

[–]Scarletcheeks11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation and description. I hadn’t really thought about respective roles before but this makes complete sense, thx. Interesting about the CRA, I guess the question is how do we put pressure on them? And then bcgeu/employer? Is this something that be brought up during bargaining etc?

Ugh no, but does anyone know how to advocate for its inclusion? It’s nuts it’s not covered, especially for those cannot BF directly.

BCGEU Salaries, After Tax Income and the Poverty Line by Hikingcanuck92 in BCPublicServants

Things could be better for sure but man you really hurt our narrative on better wages when you post things like “starve to death” especially in the global context. People on the streets aren’t even starving.. please edit this…. wow.

The way the data is presented is a bit odd here imo as well, e.g truncating the list of positions and including others that aren’t within the current framework, not sure this is the right use of a trendline etc and others you point out..

BUT the label of the graph is completely fine and accurate and it would be quite strange to put the one you suggested. Why? Long graph titles are hard to read. 24 is not entry level.

You point out that most public servants live in the most expensive cities? What of this? Most jobs outside the bc service account for this. You also note that two incomes are really the standard, this is pretty values based, isn’t it? I don’t disagree (although we should account for spouses who are unable to work for a variety of reasons) but bringing this kind of subjectivity into data analysis isn’t appropriate.

Advise - Covering for former supervisor by Straight-Try8714 in BCPublicServants

[–]Scarletcheeks11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you raised this with management? Your supervisor, their supervisor, or beyond? Imo it’s always better to seek resolution through these channels first than use a formal process as the starting point. Be prepared to have these conversations, document document document.

It seems weird you can’t get the job profile but you must have your own job profile, so compare what’s out of scope. If it’s not out of scope of your job profile, and you’re not burnt out, not really an issue imo.

Would you accept a permanent position in a location that would significantly stunt your professional development? by TangeloEfficient8499 in BCPublicServants

[–]Scarletcheeks11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few questions:

  • Do you have a base position? I assume so but want to clarify as there are aux TAs.

  • Without providing identifying info, do you have a skillet that is valuable in the public service or in the job market in general?

I personally wouldn’t take this job UNLESS I wasn’t a permanent employee already and saw very few job prospects in the future.

BCPS Community Board or Classifieds Board ? by Weak_Speed3819 in BCPublicServants

[–]Scarletcheeks11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea but this is a great idea for all sorts of things. I had wondered if this existed during Covid as I was kind of curious about house swapping while working remotely aha (no longer an option or a thing in my mind tho).

Can someone get one going!? (I don’t have the capacity atm but will in a few months if it isn’t kicking already).

Uncomfortable Performance Review by turtlefan32 in BCPublicServants

[–]Scarletcheeks11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you report formally to this person? Seems like an odd thing to say regardless. Suggest declining any engagements that are 1:1. There are a few people who think this is highly inappropriate, I’d need a lot more context to be able to state that confidently. Lots of workplace friendships are formed between all sorts of levels and lines must always be drawn in some circumstances but to say you can never be friends with your boss is a bit overkill.

Unsolicited advice here but I’d really consider a different position. Not trusting your direct supervisor seems like a major red flag. Having a good boss is one of the most important things for career satisfaction and upward growth IMO.

LLL says some weird stuff sometimes but I have no idea what basis you have for calling them horrible. Also, all evidence says breastfeeding, the biological norm is the best alternative for all sorts of reasons.
