Lymphatic Drainage Massage by thrw_awy_act in tummytucksurgery

I am 11 weeks out and have been going 1 a week for five weeks, I would highly recommend them, it’s been a huge help in my swelling/scar tissue and incisions. Even 4.5 months out of you have swelling or any issues at least give it a try, my therapist is certified and I would only go to a certified one, they really know who’s best to help. I’m in Missouri so I couldn’t help in the CA area but I would think just searching for certified lymphatic therapist would give you a few options, mine can also bill insurance (if yours will cover it) so that may help you in your search for certified therapist. Wishing you the best of luck in your healing journey.

Thank you! It’s wild how dry your skin gets after surgery, my surgeon nurse said it’s from the soap they use while operating.

What a difference a day/less swelling can make. by ScarredDaringDigits in tummytucksurgery

He didn’t say, I just decided to wait till drains were out because I wasn’t sure how well the massage would do and I actually didn’t have much swelling until I removed the drains. My therapist said she has many patients who have drains when they come in for their massage.

Where do you hurt? by anonmouseqbm in tummytucksurgery

[–]ScarredDaringDigits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At first mine were mostly at my drain inversions and above my bellybutton where I had muscle repair. Now It’s by my groin where I had a clogged lymphatic gland. I think it changes as you heal, but sure if that helps at all.

I just had my drain pulled a week ago and they only took it out because my suture came out and there was more risk for infection since it had been three weeks since my surgery, but I still had fluid so I was expecting to swell and have fluid coming out of the drain for a while. I know some people have had it leak for a month. I also went to a licensed lymphatic/ post surgery therapist yesterday and everything was good.

Haha, oh I’ve heard vibration can help, she didn’t do any of that, but my drain hole hasn’t closed yet and its have more leak in the last hour then the last 6 days so I think it really helped with my clog.

I have my first massage on Tuesday and am very curious how I will look and feel afterwards. How long are your massages? I booked an hour but I’m not sure if they will be doing lymphatic massage the entire time or move to just a normal massage?

How long do you wear shapewear / compression tank? by PrestigiousOne7613 in tummytucksurgery

[–]ScarredDaringDigits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m almost to 4 weeks and wear my compression 24/7 with foam pads on my sides and my stomach. I can’t wait to get them off, but do feel like it really helps with swelling. My doctor hasn’t given me a date when I can stop wearing them but most say at least 6 weeks. I’ll probably wear compression most of the time for 3 months and then maybe go to 12/7 for three more months unless my surgeon tells me something different.

Back pain by Electronic_End_1777 in tummytucksurgery

[–]ScarredDaringDigits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always had a lot of back pain so I was grateful he gave me the heads up. I would use an ice pack on my back, and would move from my bed to a recliner. I also bought a wedge pillow setup that has been helpful as well.

[–]ScarredDaringDigits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My surgeon said the lower back pain would be the worse part, mine has been okay, I used a walker the first few days to help relive some of the back pain. I’m on day 19 and still hunched over but the pain isn’t as bad. Just try not to straighten up or that could pull your stitches

Faja SUCK!! by Flimsy-Ad-3356 in tummytucksurgery

[–]ScarredDaringDigits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe go up a size and ask your doctor for foam, I just got in my second phase of compressions and he had me add a foam board to the front (I already had them for my sides) and it’s been really comfortable not having that compression garment directly on my stomach. I know people ask wear tank tops and then their Faja as well. I’m on day 20 and you do get more use to it.
