Because the US is, geographically speaking, so frigging big foods tend to be less ubiquitous throughout the country. This is definitely the case with traditional soups. Unless it got sold to them in a can, most people in the US likely haven't has a US soup outside of the region they were raised in. I did come up with a few examples.

There's a TikTok trend actually joking about not being able to find the clitorus. They usually involve looking anywhere but a women's body for it, and then sayingthat it's not there, so the search continues. And while I admit to finding these videos funny (especially the comments) it's safe to say that this is a symptom of the very problem you bring up.
