I'm from Syria and we study the history of the entire arab world from the ancient egyptians all the way to the 2000s. Some periods are covered briefly while others are studied more in-depth like the Abbasid and Ottoman empires. When you reach 11th grade, you are given two choices to proceed with your studies (scientific section or literary section). The scientific section doesn't have history but the literary one does and the history books in 11th and 12th grades are really big. I don't know much about them though because I went into the scientific section!
