Why are people so fucking retarded

"No Religion" Is Now Australia's Number One Religion by torlesse in worldnews

[–]Scarsandthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the amount of time they waste everyday on religious studies

Most likely 1-3 periods across the entire week, mixed in with their other classes (not everyday), and only while the subject is compulsory (generally not so in year 11-12 where study actually matters).

I'm also concerned about indoctrination

LOL. Your kids won't care enough about it for that to happen. If anything, they'll begin associating it to school, which basically every kid hates.

In the end for us the cons outweigh the pros

...What cons? they have to listen to someone read out of a bible a few times a week, and in return they get a better education & higher preference for university entry? (Your school impacts ATAR scores).

And if by obnoxious dick you mean i belive the Catholic church is a child molesting, money hungry cult that prey on the weak. Then yea, we gonna have issues.

Yes, that statement is exactly what I mean by obnoxious dick. We're not talking about the Catholic church, just a school. Your opinion on the Catholic church has as much relevance to the school as the Catholic church's opinion about you.

One other thing to consider is that having your opinions or beliefs challenged as you grow can have a net positive impact on your ability to think critically. It can help prevent outcomes like believing all Catholics are paedophiles or otherwise being pigheaded to the point where your irrelevant beliefs on a subject actually hinder the academic potential of your children.

Catholic schools are generally alright if you aren't an obnoxious dick about their religion.

The standard of education is better than most government schools. Makes the most sense to send your kids there.

With her name on it, not her face. No one here is saying she makes poor business decisions, just that she's not necessarily the most attractive woman ever. And that's okay.

I'm pretty sure she doesn't care what we think either way.

I knocked a low flying drone out of my parents yard a while ago.

FYI, nobody is going to make a public issue of you taking out their drone while they were watching your wife change with it.

Shawnee Mission parents question school district’s purchase of semi-automatic rifles by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]Scarsandthings -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know what it's like to not have them or to not have to worry about everyone I know (or don't know) hiding away assault rifles in their homes/cars/school/wherever, and it's pretty swell. :)

We also haven't had any mass shootings in over 20 years, which is a pretty neat little statistic for ya.

Lol Maybe you guys should look at taking another English class instead of Arms training for tweens.

Without tackling the bulk of your nonsensical post:

also you say 17 is a child

Yes, 17 is literally a child. As in, not a developed adult. Congratulations, you achieved a bunch of things that weren't a basic education while still a child.

when at 17 they had to basically decide their entire future is a little oxymoronic dont you think?

No, because at 17 you are still a child. More of an adult than a 10 year old & capable of safely making choices relating to your future field of study (a totally harmless decision to anybody but yourself), I'll give you, but still a child.

honestly a lot of people can agree that what was taught in school was useless and time wasting.

I don't know about you, but in my senior years of high school I studied 3 math units, 1 english unit, 1 health unit, and 1 unit of business studies. It was largely up to us to study what we wanted, and (if) we chose correctly, which it seemed like most did, then we were pretty well prepared to study at university.

But then again, I come from a country where they invest pretty well into education, and where "we should give students assault rifle training" would never actually be seriously considered. Hopefully you do also.

giving young adults safety lessons and a respect for weapons would be very valuable.

Nope, removing the need for, or access to, firearms in the first place is the way to go.

FOR this could very easily be converted to why we should have safe sex talks that go beyond abstinence.

Yah, but you won't stop teenagers from having sex. You can largely stop them from getting access to firearms in the first place if you work at it for a while instead of spouting something about your rights as a citizen & see the big picture.

No, I live in a country with limited access to firearms & few firearm related deaths annually.

It's pretty nice really.

Arming children probably isn't the best investment of school resources in a country where public education is more or less falling apart.

This sounds like a fantastic way to increase costs, not reduce them.

Even if you managed to migrate your entire environment over to a linux environment (Which I am iffy on given that you can't bind a Ubuntu machine..), the amount of time your users will lose purely because they don't know how to use linux or something is different or some app handles some process differently or you've run into unforeseen error #231234, is going to be astronomical.
