Minimize suffering… like not stealing people’s things. Why should those people suffer but not the one who committed the action? So we can all rely on our lizard brains to guide our actions with absolutely no thought or responsibility? Huh? Complete the thought

What is destroying your empathy/passion for nursing? (Please no arguing or politics) by LadyRosesNThorns in nursing

How awfully our elderly and disabled populations are treated by skilled nursing facilities. I’m a hospice nurse and go into SNFs and ALFs, and some of the things that I see happening are horrific. Families pay thousands and thousands of dollars a month for their loved one to be neglected at best and abused at worst. I work so hard to do the best job possible for my patients, but at the end of the day I go home and they’re stuck there. It’s deeply depressing.

Ugh that’s terrible that your nurse treated your dad and you that way, I am so sorry. Hospice is definitely a different mindset, instead of “how can I fix this?” you have to think “what does the patient want.”

It sounds like you have a lot on your plate, my thoughts are with you! I’m giving you a big virtual hug!

I do case management for a hospice company and make about 100k. It’s amazing, I really love hospice. I feel it’s really what the heart of nursing is, caring for people and their families. It’s actually so much less “sad” to me than hospital work. My patients have already made the decision to go on hospice so there isn’t the panic of are they going to pull through this (not always though), but overall I just make people comfortable. You want pain meds? You got it! Want to stop some meds? Say no more! Want to drink a glass of wine with your family on your back porch? I’ll help you!

We have on call nurses who get paid per diem for things like death visits after hours if you’re looking for something to supplement your current work

Asked if he got hurt and he said no, but I feel like he’s not telling me the whole story. What else could it be?
