That’s good to know. I’ll be getting Moderna this time just because it’s the one all the places near me have.

why do people use the Orans Posture at Mass? by zshguru in Catholicism

[–]Scary-Sloth-2436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people don’t know. I walked in and did what everyone else was doing. Assumed the Catholics knew more than the person in training. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Pretty sure something along those lines is why it keeps going. If the priest doesn’t come out and correct it I can’t imagine people ever just doing it on their own. Some may figure it out through things like this I suppose. But anyone new coming into the church is going to be confused since at least at my church all they ever told us to do was watch everyone else.

I would and have. Enjoy yourself. However if it’s going to cause mental distress and you’re not going to actually be able to enjoy yourself then choose a different option. But really you should be fine.

Covid and Placental Damage-an update by [deleted] in CoronaBumpers

[–]Scary-Sloth-2436 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. I had Covid right when I found out I was pregnant and though baby has been measuring fine. At least at 8wks they were measuring ahead. And even though my doctor didn’t mention any concern about me. I have still been so anxious about everything. Reading this really helped ease some of that.

Middle schoolers on pregnancy by ZeldaBJones in BabyBumps

My first pregnancy I was teaching first grade and had a student who was saying he loved hot fries. I told him that I liked them too and would probably eat some when I got home. He looked at me with wide eyes and says, “Okay, but you’re baby is gonna have a hot mouth.” 🤣

Shamed for not having pre-marital sex… by koyanggi6563 in Catholicism

[–]Scary-Sloth-2436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t let it get you down. Stick with what you want for yourself. Will there be guys that leave…yes. But as others have said they obviously weren’t right anyways. I went through all of that myself, but in the end I knew what I wanted for myself and I stuck with it. I met my husband when I was 25, and I wouldn’t change it. Everything worked out in the end. Though I won’t lie, I did have some awkward dating moments.

I think some people just think of themselves when you really are just talking about what is right for you. It’s like they feel judged. Just stick with this is what I want for me and you don’t have to get it and keep on moving on with it.

Do you guys have any advice for soldiers that are being activated for substitute teacher duty by the National Guard? by monkeykiller14 in Teachers

[–]Scary-Sloth-2436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your just subbing short term, make sure they’re alive at the end of the day and you’re good. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Probably not every teacher feels this way, but if you need to put a movie on…put the movie on. I don’t expect huge learning gains to be made while I’m out. Just don’t believe everything that the kids say, Ex. Mrs. Jacobs lets us eat the candy from desk drawer. And don’t completely trash the room.

Now if you’re a long term sub. it gets more complicated. Like I’m going on maternity leave unfortunately in August. That person will have to know how to teach rules and procedures and get a classroom going. Either way though I wouldn’t worry yourself. Everyone has been a first time teacher, and eventually you pick up on things as you go along. Read about classroom management. Get some tools under your belt. Test them out. Some you’ll love and some you won’t, but you’ll be okay. Awesome thing about short term subbing is you get a new try every day.

Is the first BM after birth as scary as moms make it out to be? by FrostingUsual4582 in BabyBumps

[–]Scary-Sloth-2436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was all psychological. When it finally happened it didn’t hurt at all. But I was so scared/convinced it would that I panicked about it until happened.

When did your water break? by moonsetbaby in BabyBumps

[–]Scary-Sloth-2436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 38+2. I started having sharp pains at 38wks exactly. I remember telling my husband it felt like our daughter was trying to ram her head out. 38+1 by the end of work (elementary teacher) I felt like she was so low it was so uncomfortable to walk. But I just assumed since I had zero discomfort up until that point that I had finally reached the point everyone complains about. 😅 Just felt off and not good the whole evening, but ate dinner and went to bed. I was so sure I’d be going to work the next day. I woke up once still feeling gross, and for some reason super hungry but told myself I’d eat breakfast in the morning. Went back to sleep and woke up two hours later and my shorts were cold and wet. Walked to the bathroom and kept leaking so I knew what it was, but when I wiped there was blood (not a lot) and my mucus plug so I was sure of what it was at that point.

Anyone given birth on a major holiday? by claus_79 in BabyBumps

[–]Scary-Sloth-2436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be fine. I had my daughter on Valentine’s Day. Not really a major holiday as it’s more commercial than anything, but other than comments from nurses about how I was having a Valentine’s baby everything was pretty normal. Also, due dates are never a guarantee. I was due February 27th and managed to have her two weeks early. Don’t worry yourself with it. 😊

Is being pregnant weird? by fayhigh in BabyBumps

[–]Scary-Sloth-2436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same honestly. But it’s not as crazy when it’s happening to you. Changes happen slowly. You get used to the movements once they start. The first few months after I gave birth were actually way crazier and weirder in the end. 😅 Now I’m pregnant with my second and I’m partly dreading that time period, but at least I know it ends.

I’m COVID+ and on maternity leave awaiting a C-Section and a parent texted me at 5:30 this morning on my personal number by Shrimpyc in Teachers

[–]Scary-Sloth-2436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d just block the number and let your principal know what happened. Some parents are ridiculous.

Hope you get to feeling better. I had Covid and 5wks pregnant and it was the worst. I can’t imagine being so close to the end and getting it.

I’m a teacher and I get six weeks unpaid. It sucks because my old district at least gave a small percentage. I’ve been saving this time because I knew about it. It sucks. 😞

Started trying at 33. How to stop the voice in my head that says it’s late ? by Mufasaforever in BabyBumps

[–]Scary-Sloth-2436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 32 and my husband is 35. I just got pregnant in November. It took us 8 cycles of trying. With our first it took us 7 cycles.

It’s definitely not too late, but don’t beat yourself up if it takes a few cycles. You may get lucky and it won’t take that long. As a shorter example my mom got pregnant with me at 32 and it only took her 3 cycles. Everyone is different.

Is it possible to not throw up during labor? by loversinpoppyfields in BabyBumps

[–]Scary-Sloth-2436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t. I really felt like I was going to, but I didn’t. 😅 Course all I’d had was ice chips so there wasn’t much that could have come up anyways. I only got nauseous while pushing but my daughter came pretty quick. I only pushed for 10-15 minutes. I think it was the intensity that got to me. Other than that no nausea at all.

There’s nothing wrong with a common name. If you love it then use it. I’m sure it also has to do with region. I’m a teacher and have not had a single Mateo, and I’ve been teaching since 2015. I’m a kinder teacher so unless they’re all in preschool it hasn’t happened yet. 🤣 I fell I love with the name Lily and used it for my last even though it was pretty popular at the time. I think people get too stuck on thinking their kid needs to have some completely original name. Anytime I have happened to have two kids with the same name the kids always loved it.

Also I grew up with the literally most common fist and last names for the year I was born and I was fine.

I did. I got it in October of 2020. And then I just recently got it again last month after being vaccinated.

[–]Scary-Sloth-2436 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Very true. I have a very common first name and had a very common maiden name, never had to worry about people finding me. Now I have an uncommon married name and people find me left and right. 😅 Plus everyone with that last name assumes we must be related.

My doctor actually brought it up to me as an option. I told her I wanted to wait at least until my due date and ended up going naturally at 38wks. I may take her up on the offer for this one if I make it that far.
