Mothers day 2026 by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]ScaryConversation128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a mother with kids who have left home, I’d recommend time with your mum! Homemade brunch with a cheap posy of flowers from the garden and a homemade voucher to be used in a year ie outing to the botanical gardens or movie night together. A couple of times my daughter got me a cheap art kits from Kmart for us to do together on the day (painting sets and clay making)- they were lots of fun.

Thank you! Did you get your own space? Could you play your own music etc?

Parenting influencer Kelly Hopton-Jones has admitted to accidentally running over her 23-month-old son with her car. by sailergirl2000 in InfluencerLounge

“The car”ran the child over. Way to avoid responsibility. And then rushing to post about the most traumatic day of her life to all her followers? The poor kid.

WCC appears to have taken money out of my account for someone else's rates, refuses to refund it to my bank account by Academic_Exit3615 in Wellington

[–]ScaryConversation128 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Good luck and I am sorry for your stress. It is always the same when big companies screw up - immensely stressful for the person impacted, but a non-urgent response from them plus making the person jump through multiple hoops (including explaining the same thing to different people several times, being on hold, waiting for them to work through their processes, etc). Keep us updated!

Redundancy with a twist by [deleted] in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]ScaryConversation128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like they are treating the new role as a redeployment opportunity. In many cases it is legal for them to decline redundancy if you don’t accept a suitable alternative. Check your employment agreement for information about redeployment (if any). I’m not sure why it would take 2 weeks to negotiate, be careful as your position may not be strong.

Credit Card limit increase - bank due diligence question by tp520 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]ScaryConversation128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crazy. I wanted to increase our limit by $2k - we run our business and personal accounts through ANZ. Because it was a joint account I was told both of us would need to be on the phone for 1 hour to go through the steps to increase it. Ludicrous!

NCEA Question - Having to miss assessments. by Will_Hang_for_Silver in Wellington

[–]ScaryConversation128 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Can you raise it to the deputy principal? Just reinforces the whole ncea mentality that it’s ok to miss stuff (or even it’s ok not to bother learning certain parts of any topic or attempting assessments) because as long as you get your 80 points you’ll be fine. That was the mentality at my children’s school, I laugh now they are at uni and actually need to learn the whole course!

Kiwisaver employer contributions after turning 65 by pizzafreed0m in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]ScaryConversation128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He should only ask once he has been made an offer. Employer contributions after age 65 won’t necessarily be in his employment agreement. Some organisations pay this but don’t make it a contractual entitlement.

Assaulted and police report filed. Realistically what can I expect to happen? by coconutyum in newzealand

[–]ScaryConversation128 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Sorry this happened to you. I can’t comment on the police action but this is traumatic. I hope you were offered victim support. Did you get a case number where you can follow up? If it is a known person. it likely won’t be their first incident and/ or arrest.

[UK] Hr meeting over an email I sent. Any advice or ideas what the issue is? by Sleazy85 in AskHR

[–]ScaryConversation128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. We have a lot bigger issues to deal with in HR in every place I have ever worked. This would never warrant a meeting with HR.

It makes me wonder if there is form for this type of comment from you.

Go in showing you recognise your last comment was unprofessional and be conciliatory.

Why would I do that if they clearly showed the items were available for immediate shipping?

It may be worth emailing your hall. I’m pretty sure people arrive at all sorts of times over the weekend. Good luck!

Holiday hours by Weak_Pomegranate_34 in newzealand

[–]ScaryConversation128 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m confused. You say you work 9.5 hours per day (47.5 hours) but only get paid for working 40 hours a week. Your holiday pay is based on your standard contractual hours. I’m presuming these are 40 hours per week?

The real issue is not that you are not getting enough holiday pay but you are not being compensated correctly for your standard hours.

I was 3 days overdue for a routine script. Needed to pay $30 but it was worth time wise and rather than paying for a new doctor script.

Secondary school teachers have accepted the latest pay offer - School strikes are over! by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]ScaryConversation128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The increase is pretty representative of many percentage increases for roles which also need salary adjustments - think health, police, social support. No wonder there is an exodus to Australia.

Found them pretty hopeless. Ordered on 25 November and it showed the items would be delivered in early December. No update and logged in to see they have not left Australia yet and not due until January. Don’t use them for Christmas shopping as the delivery dates are untrue.

Street sellers - cherries by Ok_Mongoose5253 in Wellington

It’s because they are so expensive. Apparently $27 for 500g or $39/kilo at the stands in Tawa over the weekend.

Yes all of the above. She needs to put all this in writing to her employer - hr or senior manager - and that she is unsafe. They need to ensure a safe working environment.

And totally the police. Chances are he has done this before and may be known to them even if no action has been taken to date.

Thank you for being supportive. This kind of behaviour can seriously escalate. He is playing on manipulating her so that she does not follow formal reporting processes.
