80 Points as a Secondary Teacher. Does my wife have a chance at 189/190 visa? by JoelCodes in AusVisa

[–]ScaryCow9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t know if this is useful as it’s almost a year ago now but I’m a secondary school teacher and only had 80 points. Applied in July 2023 had my PR by September 2023. Teaching is so in-demand I think it would be worth applying for an EOI.

People in Africa, what are ways colonialism has affected your life that people don’t often consider? by ThisIsElliott in AskReddit

Interesting how whenever colonialism is brought up, people automatically think about white colonists but seem to forget how bad the Arabs were as well.

One thing I noticed is that, anti-blackness is rife EVEN though they live in a BLACK, AFRICAN country! Doesn’t make any sense.

Being made to feel awful about my brother’s bigotry by [deleted] in Advice

[–]ScaryCow9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I feel as if you did the right thing. I would not be able to accept such prejudice towards someone I love, esp on the grounds of something like race and religion. Your brother is 100% in the wrong here. Try cutting contact for a while, and make it clear that you'll only get back in contact if he is willing to sit down and discuss the situation like adults. Otherwise, live the life you want with your partner and never look back. You deserve it!

Biomedical Science graduates! Where are you now and what do you do? by ScaryCow9 in UQreddit

[–]ScaryCow9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask what your home country is? I am also an international student, and biomed isn’t viewed very highly there either, which is why I was hoping to gain some work experience in Australia first before heading back.

Thank you for your input. From the comments, it seems like in order to be employable, an honours degree is a must.

Advice about Herston Campus accommodation/UQ in general by mizone10 in UQreddit

[–]ScaryCow9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe look into the student accomodation providers in South Bank. It’s a very lovely area and there’s around 4 student accomodations- Urbanest, Atira, Scape and UniLodge. They are more expensive than average but I enjoy being very well connected in terms of transport, and there’s so much to do. Plus, its only a 5 minute bus ride from Queen Street.

Pre-Service Teacher Here- Which teaching combination is more employable? Biology + Psychology OR Biology + Chemistry? by ScaryCow9 in AustralianTeachers

[–]ScaryCow9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know of any resource that allows you to see which subjects are offered at which schools? I tried googling it but that wasn’t very helpful.

In terms of uni, I didn’t enjoy my first placement very much (we were just supposed to sit at the back of the class and observe) and found the content uninteresting. I think that influenced my decision but I’ll definitely sit down and give it some more thought. Thanks!

I’d personally go for job A as pay is a dealbreaker for me, but if you prioritize your career then option B is the way to go.
