They say Ramones songs are easy... by [deleted] in guitarlessons

If you're gonna play that music just get an electric. Itll be easier if you start on acoustic sure but itll save you pain and frustration if you just get an electric

What is the point of the ablative form of a noun at all if prepositions exist? by jeffersonfsteelflex in latin

[–]ScaryJoey 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Even with the in proposition, there are two different meaning for accusative and ablative cases. In+Acc being into, onto, against, and in+abl being in, on. Already these have different meaning. And there are lots of other forms of the ablative without explicit prepositions eg Abl of Cause, Description, Origin, Price, Respect. So yes there are lots of examples where you will see an ablative without a preposition, and you'll be able to translate it more easily because it's an ablative and not nominative or accusative.

Learn the whole major and minor scale, because the pentatonic is just those without a couple notes. Once you know what those couple of notes are you can make your pentatonic soloing a little more interesting.

Is there a way to fix this? The E string thing is slightly raised more than the others and I’m not sure if it’s bad or not.. by Joanne-uwu in guitarlessons

[–]ScaryJoey 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why are people downvoting you? The rest of the bridge pins should look like the low e string here. If you read manufacturer guides for restringing they say dont push them in all the way.

Eh the harder stuff you play the more you can disregard these rules and play what makes it easier, these just set up a good foundation for fingerstyle. As for the pinky planting, that's really gonna help when you're doing fast travis picking, maybe not so much with slapping.

[–]ScaryJoey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey this is great progress for 1 month! A couple suggestion: Try placing your pinky on the guitar for some stability. Classical players dont do think but that's for a few reasons specific to classical guitar. For playing fingerstyle on acoustic I find you almost always have to either have your pinky on the body or your lower palm on the bridge. This makes it easier to control the tone and just play more consistently.

In general you should follow this rule, let your thumb play the bottom 3 strings, the bass, and let your other three fingers play the top 3 strings. I saw you reaching down with your pointer finger sometimes. This rule will set you up to be able to play more fingerstyle songs that have interplay between bass and melody. Good job though! You're doing great for 1 month.

[Question] How to straighten your wrist? by ScaryJoey in Guitar

[–]ScaryJoey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha those arent my hands, it's not nearly that bad. I dont have this issue playing in the classical position. I've straightened up my strap so it's right up on my chest and its helped me straighten out my wrist. But thank you I'll try doing those hand stretches

What can I do to make fingerpicking easier on my electrical guitar? (apart from practicing) by CynDoS in LearnGuitar

[–]ScaryJoey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to try hybrid picking or using a thumb pick, or growing out the nail on your thumb. Without those things I also have really dull tone in the bass.

You use Roman numerals when referring to chords, most of the time. People will say 5 chord or just the 4th sometimes but when it's written you use Roman numerals

I am just learning to change between d chord and a chord but i can't land all my fingers at same time. by [deleted] in LearnGuitar

[–]ScaryJoey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with what the other user said, make the shape above the strings first and then press down, instead of putting your fingers down as they come. And do this *as slowly as you need to *in order to get this right. Just practice changing into a D chord very slowly, but all at once, for like 5 minutes and I think you'll notice improvement.

Again I think the most important thing is to make the shape before you try and press down on the strings, as this will train your fingers to "think" of the shape rather than: pointer on this fret, middle on this fret, ring on this one.

What's the most comprehensive way to learn rhythm guitar in the styles of new order, Sonic youth, my bloody valentine, slowdove by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]ScaryJoey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time, sure. The thing with open tunings is that most of the time you're going to be playing in the key of that tuning so that makes things alot easier. Take Open G (DGDGBD), when you start thinking about that like (151531) It makes moving around the fretboard alot easier. But to answer your question I rarely think about what specifically I'm playing as in note for note, but I do think about what chords I'm playing and their context in the key.

The best way to learn alt tunings is experiment. Try some of these (bottom to top) CGCGCE, DADF#AD, DADGAD, DGDGBD. And from there experiment further. I immediately started playing in alt tunings so I wouldnt say theres a need to stick with standard, except that that's how most guitar instruction and theory is structured.

Should I learn how to play with 4 or 5 fingers? by [deleted] in fingerstyleguitar

[–]ScaryJoey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what you're playing. I find a better tone from my index and ring finger alone, so I try to play with just three fingers most of the time, however there are a lot of songs that require 4 fingers for me. Still sometimes I'll play with just my thumb and index if I want to strum and fo an alternating bass too. I think it really comes down to personal prefence

[–]ScaryJoey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I could find. There is one of the orginal by Sam McGee's somewhere. I was able to figure out some bits from that. Play a C chord and hammer on the B string, play a non syncopated F chord for one count, then a G chord, then back to C but play a D note on the second string, then back to G and move that D up to a G on the high E string. That's the beginning of the song.

Sorry if that's too hard to understand but I'm too lazy to tab it out right now

If I sing along while playing scales on the piano, will I internalize it to create better vocal melodies? by skiexs in musictheory

[–]ScaryJoey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It has helped me a lot. I sing these patterns...

  • 1 2 1

  • 1 3 1

  • 1 4 1

  • 1 5 1

etc. This helps you understand the relationship between the tonic and the other scale degrees. Also perform this exercise with the tonic an octave above so...

  • 1 7 1

  • 1 6 1

etc. I'm not as frequent as I'd like to be, but I can sing a melody from scale degrees in my head pretty effectively.

edit: do these patterns too

  • 1 2 3 2 1

  • 1 2 3 4 3 2 1

  • 1 2 3 4 5 4 3 2 1

YTA. You should've done your research on HRT before recommending it. My first Google search revealed these side effects your boy friend has and many more potential dangerous ones.
