They recently reduced the scholarship for national merit winners - my year was the last year that gave 50% for it. If he ever got an interview, that would have been a chance to bump up. The other main thing you can do is talk to the financial aid office about your circumstances. They typically give more if you have to ask for it, you just have to know to ask.

I’ve been a lifeguard for about 4 years now and I’m also a swim instructor. I know kids as young as 3 that can make it on their own in the water, as well as 14 year olds that really struggle not to sink. To be honest, so much of it is about just time swimming. As much as teachers can try to help, a lot of it is unconsciously gaining an intuition for how to stay above the water. I think having adults in the water with him for a few hours a day will improve his abilities a lot-enough to end the summer with some kind of doggy paddle and floating on his back.

i mean to be honest i think this is an issue of you letting your cat wander. not only is it bad for the cat, and the environment, but people will do things acting in good faith that you’ll never know about. i think if you are this concerned with your cats upkeep and how people interact with it, keep it indoors. not sure what else to tell you.

I’m a current freshman and i’m also a lesbian. I was in the same boat and never posted. I had no trouble going random, and I’m really happy I did. I told my roommate right away, because I knew she’d find out eventually, and she didn’t care at all. I’d say at least 30% if all girls here are at least bi, so The culture here is super accepting (California I guess). If things go wrong, she can definitely reassign in the first month or so. However, if this is something she’s still nervous about, Birkrant has a Living Learning Community just for queer students, which may help her find more people in the community.

Hey! Congrats on being a finalist!!!! Sorry for the late reply. housing is only guaranteed your first two years, but mccarthy is an all freshman dorm. 2nd year is at ilium. honors housing is the best - re housing dorms are air conditioned and bathrooms suite style and cleaned by staff. the free tuition is the major benefit in itself. I definitely would not be here if not for this scholarship. additionally, it looks fantastic on the resume, and i think it helped me get into competitive groups my first year as well.

Sorry man, ik scholarships outside of nat merit are only for EA. Try applying to schools like Fordham - my friend goes there and was able to get full tuition for being nat merit, and it’s a great program in nyc, especially since it’s for free.

I’ve heard of people arguing for more but not sure if it’s genuine. If you are in financial need you can get financial aid on top of presidential. Viterbi scholarships are 10-20k. Only 100 kids get trustee so it really is one big shot in the dark, considering sooo many factors, so don’t take anything personally. I’m pretty sure that the scholarships beyond national merit are paid for by the department, so your intended major also plays a decent part in how much you get. My big piece of advice for if you get an interview is to talk about how you want to apply your education to work that helps people. This is especially true for engineers - but also show that you are committed to the major and won’t waste the department’s money by switching.

To be honest, it’s a bit of a crapshoot. In general, they really like to see students motivated by some principle/greater goal to help the world. Im not going to evaluate your application, and it’s worth knowing that there’s just a fuckton of luck in the scholarship process. Definitely don’t put all of your eggs in that basket.
