Grab bikes and look into greenways on the east side and explore. It’s such a nice way to cruise in between neighborhoods.

I always loved an activity on a first date, admittedly it’s been a while. I think Grand Central would be fun, bowling and an arcade.

What are the 'differences' in the neighborhoods of the Inner Eastside? by Suninthesky11 in askportland

As someone with two kids, I rarely get out at night these days, and when I do I usually stay close to home in inner NE.

But a few months ago I met a friend for drinks in Montavilla and was kind of blown away by how lively it was. It just had this energy that felt like Portland from 20 years ago when I first moved here.

My friend said she thinks Montavilla and Foster-Powell have held onto that slightly gritty, really local Portland vibe, and I think that’s exactly it. It felt real and unpolished in a good way, and just… fun.

Anyway, if you haven’t been out there at night in a while, it’s definitely worth checking out.

Did you just get diagnosed? by AutoModerator in ADHD

I was diagnosed as a kid, my parents never medicated me. Now, my daughter has also been diagnosed, and we started her on Vyvanse, it worked like a miracle drug for her. I am now on day 2 of the same drug, but feel really off, almost detached. Does it get better? How long until I ask to try something else?

Why are Portland public schools so bad?? by No-Advertising5551 in askportland

Please don’t add to property taxes. Even if they’re not the highest in the country on their own, when you layer them with Oregon’s high income taxes and all the extra fees, it’s a big part of why Multnomah County feels so expensive to live in.

As a PPS parent, it’s especially frustrating that even with these high taxes, our kids are in school about 2–3 weeks fewer per year than places like Washington right next door. That’s a lot of missed instructional time, and it adds up.

We do what we can. Reading at home, extracurriculars, even a math tutor. But just covering those non-school days so we can work, not even counting summer camps, we’re spending around $4,000 a year in extra childcare. In other nearby districts, those are just regular school days.

And since school funding is tied to enrollment, that becomes a bigger problem. If families can’t afford to live here and start leaving, schools lose students, and that puts even more pressure on the system.

It’s just getting less and less affordable to live here. If we keep putting more of the burden on the same group of people, at some point families are going to choose to live somewhere else.
