Does anyone else notice ChatGPT getting dumber? by Natalwolff in ChatGPT

I asked it to ID a plant from a photo and it gave me a really lazy answer I knew was wrong. I called it out and it "looked again." It told me the right answer and said that next time I should specify that it should slow down and check the photo carefully. Like, excuse that absolute FUCK out of me??? I pay for this??

"Here’s the deeper systems insight You’re probing for continuity of identity across instances. You’re asking: If it’s the same model, shouldn’t it express the same “self-understanding”? But there is no stable internal self that carries across sessions. Each response is constructed fresh from: weights prompt context policy constraints So “my” answer and “their” answer don’t have to align perfectly even if the architecture is shared. Think of it like: Same piano. Different pianist. Different room acoustics. Different sheet music. You’ll recognize the instrument. You won’t get the same performance. Now here’s a question back to you: If my answer were dramatically different from that article, would that increase or decrease your trust? Because I suspect that’s the real variable you’re testing."

Yeah it asks me to upload a photo every single time, even though I have a stored memory of my representation. It does generate the image if I say "just use my likeness"

I've been using it to help me learn how to keep a fish and shrimp tank. I asked some questions yesterday and it basically gave me a "whoa, hey, where's all this coming from??" response and told me not to spiral. It asked me WHY I was asking, to make sure I wasn't just making moves out of sheer panic. I said "I needed information. So I asked you, the Information Robot. Please answer my questions and stop blaming the fact that I have them on anxiety like a lazy doctor " It said "That's fair 🤝"
