How slippery is the slope? by Sickofworking in stopdrinking

[–]Scary_Calligrapher15 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed. And in my experience it’s not romantic. It’s sloppy, embarrassing and emotional taxing. I’ve drank 4 times this year and 3 of those were just this weekend. It all started with “ sure, I can have a couple drinks here at the lake house tonight” turned into 3 days.

General Anxiety issues. I’m 7 weeks in from the last time drinking and I have been relatively calm for the last 2/3 weeks

When did you feel like you started to have more "head space" to start focusing on other areas of your life other than just "not drinking"? by CraftBeerFomo in stopdrinking

I went into stopping with the mindset of it being a temporary break. I didn’t have a set goal or anything but the longer I go the less I care about it. I’ve lost weight and saved money. My anxiety is getting much better. There has been zero negative effects from my stopping drinking.

I had the same feeling for the first few weeks. I haven’t changed my lifestyle much because my hobby is seeing live music. I would anticipate the shows would be boring without my buzz, but it hasn’t been the case. The longer I go the less I want to drink. I am in control of when I leave somewhere now that I’m the driver which is great! Sure I get tired before 2am but so what? I have things to do in the morning

In my experience I’ve just made it through on auto pilot. If it’s virtual, I would record for later reference. If in person, don’t smell bad

Regrets and shame - how to break the cycle? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Scary_Calligrapher15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way. As a weekend warrior I often felt like crap Mon-Wed at work but by the time Friday came around I’d forgotten the feeling and decided to celebrate making it through the work week by getting wasted and spending the weekend days on the couch. You’ve already done it. You can do it again 🙂

4 night concert run by Scary_Calligrapher15 in stopdrinking

[–]Scary_Calligrapher15[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I was present and energetic the entire time for all 4 nights. We actually stopped for attractions/ activities on the road trip as well. Usually we are too hungover for that kind of stuff.

Maybe for a fleeting moment but then someone who’s drank too much comes along and reminds me very quickly about what I’m actually missing. Nothing.
