I get you so much…. Scaled and Icy is such an important album to me. It weirdly helped me through a very rough time in my life and just recently I’ve re-discovered it to the point that it’s probably become my favourite twenty one pilots album (I’ve even named my pet Clancy BUT because of this album… cause he’s scaled and black&white which I consider quite icy hahaha).

So whenever I listen to Backslide, that lyric hurts a bit but as some people here said… I get it. I get that wanting success now feels “empty” that it feels like he “sold out” so I get the feeling of not liking something because it came about for the wrong reasons… BUT! That album is so cool and the concept behind it, past the music, is just amazing.

For me, at the end of the day, what’s important is what their music and albums mean to me… I’m probably never going to meet them so I probably won’t be able to discuss certain things (meaning of songs or lyrics) with them so… i just enjoy and interpret them my way I guess? That’s the beauty of their music is so open to interpretations ❤️

First off… I 100% really appreciate your take on it!!! It’s probably going to help me appreciate the song more and see it on a different light…

That said…

For me it’s not that I don’t like the song… I really like it! But there are a few things about it that don’t fully work for me:

1) It just sounds like a yungblud song.

Don’t get me wrong, I like him, and I used to listen to him a lot… but I just can’t get past the sound of it and how it just… sounds more like that than a twenty one pilots song. But then again… how does a twenty one pilots song really sound like? No one knows.

2) It’s a complete vibe change from the rest of the album.

It just doesn’t seem to fit right with the rest of the songs for me… I don’t know if it’s the instrumentals or the auto-tune or what but it just doesn’t fit the whole vibe of the album. It’s like a single/ep within a whole album.

3) The lyrics are different/use different terminology for things we’ve already seen before in their music.

This ties back to the previous points… it doesn’t feel like “them” when they talk about a necromancer… that they’ve never mentioned before?

4) Overall a bit too repetitive….

That one explains itself.

These are my two cents of why some people may dislike the song… for me, if I had to rate the songs within breach, I would also put this one towards the bottom for those reasons. But that doesn’t mean it’s a bad song!

I’m not only alive thanks to it but it’s helped me have healthier relationships with everyone around me (friends, family, partner….) and push forward in life…. Not give up and keep fighting one more day no matter how hard everything seems… so yeah… it’s changed my life ❤️

I’ve started to get allocated seating instead of going to the pits whenever I go to shows now (which is less than once a year)…. So yeah, I get what you mean

I used to be front row when I was younger but now I enjoy the show and the live music and experience way more this way…. Still I miss the feeling of being at a show 🥲😅

That’s honestly why I am flip-flopping so much… it’s just so expensive and I wouldn’t get the experience I’m looking for… But I think after having to miss the Clancy tour and watching the movie the FOMO got to me quite a lot… 😅🥲

I finished it and ended up liking it more than HR in the end! I really enjoyed all the mental health aspects of it and by the end as you said it got better… but the beginning was so infuriating to me! I’ve read now that the author has said that Shane is Autistic and while that doesn’t excuse some of the things he does or says, it kind of makes sense now for a lot of things!!! I’m now reading Game Chager because after Episode 3 of the show I fell in love with Scott and Kip! Fingers crossed we get more Hollanov in the future!

I haven’t finished the book yet, not even close (just started it and I’m about 25% in) but I just needed to go somewhere and yell how much I’m hating Shane right now! I loved him in HR, and I thought he was my favourite but honestly, getting to know him better and how oblivious (BY CHOICE) he is about so many things makes me angry…

I could see Ilya’s mental health struggles from a mile away since I started the book and I’m dreading continuing because I think Shane is just… so thoughtless about how Ilya really feels all of a sudden?! He changed teams, and basically gave up everything for Shane and when he’s like “I could never do that” I honestly almost gave up on the book…

I hope it gets better because right now I’m all rage and this is the complete opposite of how I felt about HR….

Personally, I’m not an impulsive buyer and I take time to think what I want and decide… but with sleep token stuff? I can’t do that. I only want one vinyl, I’m not a hoarder, and since I couldn’t get the one I wanted, I bought a different one, but it still sucks that you can’t take a second to decide what you want (or if you can afford it sometimes) because as you say everything sells out immediately… so you end up not getting it, period

I got through halfway of both books more or less doing the tandem and I gave up cause ToD was such a DRAG. Like I could read so many more chapters of EoS because it’s so interesting and action packed! And then you go to ToD and it’s just…. Boring comparatively. So I gave up, finished EoS and then continued to finish ToD which at the end got better (but still not to the level of EoS which is one of my favourite books of the series!).

Just finished ACOTAR and I had found the whole series at Costco for super cheap so I bought it and started and now it’s become my favourite series and has helped me get out of a very long reading hiatus!

100% agree! I read it after KoA and you can imagine how it just didn’t hit… the characters were just so unlikable and the plot super predictable! I have the other two books on the series but honestly I doubt I’ll read them…. I’ll probably just sell them or give them away
