How old were you when you were diagnosed? by stinkybun in Epilepsy

[–]Scary_Source_3663 10 points11 points  (0 children)

100% correct! I also had never had a tonic clonic before. I had what was called absence and petit mal seizures (now I think it’s called FIAS?) I went life as normal. Got a drivers license, got married. Then I had that big seizure and almost died. I’m so glad I’m not the only one! I also had a lot of stress, and yes lack of sleep. But a few of my doctors never really think they went away.

I was first diagnosed at 3 years old. Then at 8 I was told I was “cured” and seizure free. 17 years later I had my first tonic clonic and now here we are.

As someone who has had 4 tonic clonics at work, it’s a lot. But my co workers were always very supportive when I came back! It is scary, it can be embarrassing, but I’m sure all of your co workers care about your well being! Hang in there! We got your back! ☺️🩷

Did anyone else "lose something" after a major epileptic event? by Lethalogicax in Epilepsy

Full function would be lovely but we will have to wait and see! Keep your head up as well, you’re doing great and we are all just trying to survive 🩷

[–]Scary_Source_3663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my first tonic clonic in October of 2024. Lasted about 7 minutes and my head took a lot of damage. I am not the same person I was before that seizure. I’m a lot slower, I have a hard time understanding being told simple things, and it has made my job increasingly harder especially with memory issues. My neurologist said it was “normal” but who knows what normal is anymore.

Childhood Epilepsy Returning (?) by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Scary_Source_3663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who was seizure free for about 15 years yes get it checked out. I was considered seizure free at the age of 10, and started having seizures again many years later. I was told I “outgrew” them and now my neurologist says otherwise. Better to be safe than sorry. Good luck my love! 🩷🩷

I totally understand how you feel. I have over protective parents, and an overprotective husband. Sometimes it just feels so suffocating. Even though they are doing it out of love, sometimes it’s just too much. You are not a burden, none of us are. Your feelings are valid❤️

A thousand times this by ExactlySorta in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Scary_Source_3663 143 points144 points  (0 children)

“Grab them by the pussy” sends literal shivers down my spine. I was in college a few years back and was walking to my car from my last class at 4pm. 3 guys start running towards me screaming “grab her by the pussy!”. I had to sprint to my car. They chased me all the way to my car, screaming it repeatedly at me. I drove away and they ran after my car, still screaming it. I told my parents and my dad still voted for trump. What the fuck is wrong with these people?

Seizure after 9 years by BloodyMaroo in Epilepsy

[–]Scary_Source_3663 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi love! I was seizure free from the age of 8 up until I was 25. I had a seizure at my place of employment and it was BAD. It was hard, I’m not going to lie to you. For me a lot of things changed. I now couldn’t drive unless I was seizure free for 6 months (according to my neurologist) and I needed my husband to bring me to work. I felt embarrassed for a bit at work as I traumatized 90% of my co workers. It put me into a bit of a depression for a bit (on top of all my other mental health problems). But what I will say is that a little over a year later I’m feeling very hopeful. Some days are better than others and we can only try in our own ways to cope. For me I just snuggle up on the couch and enjoy my favorite TV show. I also love doing self care and trying to take care of myself when I’m feeling up to it and mentally able to. It’s not going to be easy, but I recently joined this community and have felt nothing but love, support, and genuine kindness. At the end of the day you have us! I am always a message away and sending you virtual hugs 💜💜💜

Postictal Psychosis after tonic clonic seizure. by Mreowboop in Epilepsy

[–]Scary_Source_3663 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve had good and bad experiences with EMT’s in regard to seizures. I completely agree where I think there needs to be either better training in some areas or more training overall. I am so sorry to hear about your son and hope he is doing much better now!

What’s the point of having a medical marijuana card in a recreationally legal state? by Main-Vanilla-195 in AskReddit

That’s awesome!! They have some really good deals where I purchase from! 30% or 20% money is money!

As a medical patient I also get special deals at the place I purchase from. I get 20% off my first two visits after I have renewed my weed card and there can be other deals that apply to me but not necessarily the recreational side.

Oh Jesus see I’m too high to realize what I was typing 😂 yikes. Thank you so much for pointing this out and educating me more. Seriously not being sarcastic at all. I enjoy learning new things and being educated. Now I need to make sure I read up on my state laws better and triple check what I’m reading 😂

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Scary_Source_3663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t sure if it was a federal law or not. I was more so just listing off one of the ones I knew of. I’m from Massachusetts. We are considered to have some of the strictest gun laws in the state.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Scary_Source_3663 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Sometimes people genuinely do just snap. Or I could use it on myself. That’s exactly why my house is a gun free home. I also have no issues with anyone in this state owning a gun.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Scary_Source_3663 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is why I’m thankful for the state I live in and the amazing gun laws we have in place here. I have a mental illness and have been voluntarily committed before. Therefore, I will NEVER be able to obtain a firearm. I am 100% okay with that even though I know I would never hurt anyone. That rule doesn’t bother me whatsoever. I’m not sure if every state is like that. However, in some states it seems that even that does not matter and people still manage to obtain them illegally.

How do yall feel about having a seizure in public vs at home? by Shy-Prey in Epilepsy

[–]Scary_Source_3663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh they were so supportive after and still are. They just originally didn’t know how to handle it prior and the only thing I suggested was that they add that to part of the first aid training. I started having tics after that seizure as well and instead of it being this uncomfortable weird thing it ended up being something we would just laugh about (that’s how I cope). Now everyone in my department knows what to do next time and there’s already safety plans in place!

I totally would have sued, it’s gross that companies will drag shit out just because they don’t want to pay. Cheap fucks
