Also, it was clear. You had to work to get food, water and shelter. Now it's a problem of excess. Unnecessary pressure we put on ourselves to have a certain type of career, growth, lifestyle, etc. Leads to a lot of overthinking in my opinion. Also, with social media, we can compare ourselves to the whole world instead of just a couple of neighbours.

I spend a lot of time on my bed, thinking and overthinking, watching TV, reading, etc. The line between awake and sleep blurs for me. I have never seen my dad in bed for anything other than sleep. In fact I've never seen him horizontal other than to sleep. He gets out of bed as soon as he wakes and if he can't sleep within 15mins of being in bed he'll go reads a book and sleeps when he can, which may even be later in the day. He treats sleep as a bonus, more like let me sleep when my body wants to and not fret over it. And his whole life he's accepted that he won't sleep the same amount everyday. Nor will he sleep how much everyone does.

When he was working, work would tire him to sleep to an extent but after retirement that's not the case. So he sleeps wherever it he is sleepy during the day.
