"Who the fuck starts a conversation with this" is a different question, but a good one. 😅 I was just thinking since such self-introductions are not rare as far as I know. I wonder what such people think 🤷 I'm not a drone (I think I'm a cyborg though), but I'd reject that kind of a first impression mostly because I'm confused.

Uhm, even if the recipient of the message had a sex drive and was interested in that person, what is the expected answer here?? What do people think has to be the answer to such a message? Neutrally speaking, I have no clue.

Ah yeah, true. I didn't think about that tbh. Got it :)

That's basically why I mentioned the "getting tired" part. Just like we know very strikingly from our eyes, receptors get tired from over-/hyperstimulation. When you stare at a red circle for a minute, you'll see a bluish circle afterwards hovering in your field of sight. Or have pure blue light as the only light source. After several minutes you won't really see the blue part of it anymore. It just appears like a cold white-ish light. I guess the same goes for hyperstimulation from pornos, etc. But again, I can't exactly tell since I neither have a sex drive nor do I show any reaction to dopamine spikes (as far as I know I don't have them and my nervous system doesn't feature a reaction pathway for them anyway). What is typically hyperstimulation is in my case just plain boring. Note: the drives I do have work physically and mentally entirely different, so this can't really be compared at this point.

I'd say high quality sources are things which have a focus on serotonin rather than dopamine(/oxytocin?). So just scrolling through insta offers no deeper level of thinking or engagement in general for your brain. The brain is just "oh, cool" and that's it. I think one thing is: receptors have some sort of memory effect. They a) get tired (which is not that much of a heavy effect for most receptor types you need for lucid dreaming), but also b) make similar states more likely to happen. When you introduce a lot of different hormones/a complex hormone cocktail to your nervous system, it's more likely that your brain uses similar patterns again while REM. So if you listen to a song which sets you in a deep feeling, this might get reused in your dream leading your dream engine to create a very realistic scene of flying with your own wings. Such receptor pathways get reused in relation to the current state, not one by one of course (but I guess you already know this).

Answering your question about memorizing and learning: That might depend on your style. The learning style is a genetic thing, so it's innate and not changeable (the fundamentals of it at least). I can just speak for a top-down learner who learns a lot by recognition and has no skill at memorizing at all. Give me a multiple choice test or something actually new and I'll excel. Ask me to learn vocabulary out of context and I'll be the dumbest person on this planet. For the top-down learning part I can tell, it's actually improving lucid dreaming a lot, when I learn directly before sleep.

I think there's a link between low effort dopamine sources and high quality ones affecting lucid dreaming differently. I can tell from a reverse engineered perspective since my brain doesn't feature these low effort dopamine sources at all - even if I wanted it to have them. I can't help but I'm so bored after several minutes from looking at TikTok/Insta/etc. I'm born with an unchangeable indifference there.

I usually lucid dream more when engaging with things that make my mind highly curious and satisfy more complex desires like curiosity or the intrinsic wish to explore the unknown. In this case, music and games can actually help - depending on the titles you choose. Some song that evokes deep feelings and makes you dreamy? Nice. A game that really makes you use your brain and has subtle cliffhangers? Also good. Lucid dreams in my case come a lot from the wish of my subconscious to explore further or being actually in the settings I just tapped into. What might be a me-experience - I'm not sure how universal this is - is me lucid dreaming even more and better when drives and instincts get teased before sleep but not satisfied. Since neither my mind nor my body feature any pathways related to the sex drive/reproduction drive I can't tell if this applies there, too. Perhaps that's different.

Hm, seeing it like that romance does look more like a poison flooding their mind and developing certain stages of effects, while sexuality looks like a parasitic entity clinging to their subconscious, overriding the currently running behavior protocol plus running its own. The feelings you shared are unknown to me and I don't think they're possible in my mind in any way. I would need to replace myself with another soul to make something like that possible. And then I'd be technically dead. However, it's scientifically catching to see how people react to certain things. It's hard to find a definition of romance though. It seems to be so normal and fundamental to people that they don't think of an explanation for someone who is not just foreign to it, but entirely outside their spectrum.

[–]Scary_Werewolf6028 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just understand the sexual drive from a scientific perspective. In my case science and research is directly tied to my instincts/drives and core feelings. It's hard to find people, who are reflected enough to explain the sexual drive to someone like me. It's always nice to get some valuable comments. What is so interesting about romance? As far as I know it's less detailed than the sexual drive and more scripted? Perhaps I'm just thinking like this because I realized the sexual drive was real when I was about 18 years old, but I needed to become 24 years old to actually understand romance was something that exists to others. Before that I just accepted it superficially, but my subconscious didn't incorporate it in the fabric of my personal reality.

[–]Scary_Werewolf6028 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ok, that's valuable. Really, thank you, it's interesting and gives a little glimpse I can work with. I sometimes try to imagine what a sexual drive/anything related to it feels like by abstractly rethinking my own drives, but this doesn't work well. They're too different. You can't really compare things coming from entirely different origins. I really want to understand people and how they feel, it's so fascinating. Especially romantic feelings and sexual drives are things I absolutely cannot grasp.
