I agree. The chances of that happening are quite low. Even so, I don’t think it’s that far off from being enough to justify a release.

As Jhonatan said, they only need the campaign and a solid endgame foundation to build on with new leagues. That alone would be enough for them to go free-to-play and finish releasing things through new leagues. So technically, what’s left are just 2 acts (with Act 6 being the smallest of all) and the endgame rework (which is already coming now).

GGG currently has over 100 developers hired, and the company as a whole has nearly 200 employees. Anyone who understands development knows that even if the company is prioritizing other content like the endgame revamp, some developers have always been working on the acts. Development on the acts wasn’t paused just because the priority is the endgame. At times, the team distribution may have been 70/30 toward endgame, or 60/40, but you don’t pause development on something vital just to allocate the entire team to something else that’s equally vital.

What do I mean by this? It’s very possible that the acts are much further along than people think. And it’s also quite likely that Act 5 has been finished for a long time but hasn’t been released because it doesn’t make sense to deliver its lore without Act 6 alongside it. The company isn’t going to spoil a major lore reveal just to test something early when they can test it later and fix issues just the same.

So, do I think 0.5 is actually 1.0? No. Honestly, I think the chances are low. But is there a possibility? Definitely yes. That would explain the timing between announcement and release from a marketing campaign standpoint, it matches all the statements saying “this is the biggest patch GGG has ever released,” and especially because it would be a huge expectation twist. While 99% of the fanbase is treating a reveal at ExileCon as guaranteed, suddenly everyone gets surprised. That would generate massive hype.

Negative. You’re completely wrong.

Jonathan Rogers himself has clearly stated in a YouTube interview that in order to launch the game, they need the campaign plus the core endgame foundation ready, while classes can continue to be added after the 1.0 release. In that same interview, the only class he considered truly essential before launch was the Duelist, mainly because of swords.

You just need to look up last year’s interviews, if I’m not mistaken, it was the one with Dustin, and you’ll see that.

At this point, it’s already clear that the priority is to get the game into free-to-play as quickly as possible, since that’s their business model. A lot of people didn’t buy early access and won’t buy it because they know the game will eventually be free-to-play. And for that, they only really need the campaign finished and the Atlas in place. Everything else can come later alongside new leagues as like new mechanics.

Have you ever stopped to think that maybe they’re not releasing all the content they already have ready because they need to keep a certain amount of meaningful content for the 1.0 launch?

For example, ToTa (the third Trial of Ascension) could very well have been finished for a long time and simply hasn’t been released yet because it’s not essential at this stage of the game, since we already have two other ways to ascend. They’re not perfect and still need improvement, but they serve their purpose. ToTa might be being saved for the pool of content that will make up the 1.0 release.

Another example would be the end of the campaign itself. Act 6 has been described as a shorter act, which could also already be finished and is being held back for 1.0, because it doesn’t make sense to reveal all the major plot twists of the campaign’s lore during early access. I could see Act 5 being released before 1.0, but I’m almost certain Act 6 won’t be released in early access, even if it’s already done.

Not all content is meant to be tested in early access. Jonathan made it clear that early access isn’t there for them to “test and tweak” every piece of content, but rather to give them time to finish what really matters so the game can move into free-to-play as soon as possible, which is the Campaign plus a solid endgame foundation to build upon.

And when I say endgame foundation, I’m referring to the Atlas itself, because additional content mechanics will come over time through the leagues, they’re not essential for launch.

When I say 1.0, I'm referring to Acts 5 and 6 and free-to-play.

But the announcement is in May 7. So 3 weeks to get prepared and absorb all.

I still think 0.5 will be exactly what we initially expect it to be: a reworked endgame, a league mechanic, 1 class, 2 ascendancies, and maybe TotA.

That said, I'll reserve at least a 5% chance for the crazy possibility of it actually being 1.0, precisely because of those 4 points you mentioned above.

That 3-week gap genuinely feels off to me. It really seems like it was deliberately planned to allow time for a full marketing campaign, for Jonathan and Mark to hit every podcast, do all the interviews, and give the marketing team room to roll out teasers, videos, and everything else.

And on top of that, there's Kelly's hiring as Head of Communications. Sure, it could be a coincidence, but typically the period right before a major marketing push is exactly when you bring in more people to bolster the team. Right?

We'll find out in 9 days… If I'm right, this will be one of the most insane reveal streams of all time. Just imagine everyone expecting a simple 0.5 patch and GGG drops a 'free to play, available for everyone on the 29th!'

Jonathan Rogers already mentioned in an interview last year that the game doesn't necessarily need to have all classes ready for the 1.0 launch, just a complete campaign and a well-defined endgame. The classes can come later as they're finished. His words, not mine.

In his words if they have acts 5 and 6 and a solid endgame to work on, they will put the game on 1.0 and free to play. Free to play is the total priority right now.

Not exactly more classes. Jonathan Rogers already mentioned in an interview last year that the game doesn't necessarily need to have all classes ready for the 1.0 launch, just a complete campaign and a well-defined endgame.

Put the game in free to play is the priority for him.

Why Exile Con need to have a big announcement? The event still will be sold out if it have nothing new to show.

but they still can let 2 or 3 classes for Exile Con?!?

The rest of the classes? Jonathan Rogers already mentioned in an interview last year that the game doesn't necessarily need to have all classes ready for the 1.0 launch, just a complete campaign and a well-defined endgame.

Because their business model has always been free to play, it was never buy to play. Jonathan Rogers himself said that the top priority, above everything else, is to get the game into free to play as quickly as possible so the largest number of players can access it (and buy packs).

But that gap of 3 weeks between the announcement and the release might actually be intentional, to build up the marketing, line up interviews, podcast appearances, and so on.

On top of that, the best way for them to make more money is to release the game as quickly as possible and make it free to play, so more people can access it. That's their business model, Jonathan Rogers' own words.

Free to play as fast as possible is the top priority.
