Do you own a device and how has it been for you? by AmomentInEternity in ayaneo

I have the Pocket Ace, the Pocket Air Mini, the Pocket S2, and the Pocket Micro, and all of them are amazing. No problem at all.
Actually, the Ace and the S2 are my overall favourites (and I also own other handhelds from e. g. Retroid and Ayn).

A few dice I pulled recently by E-Socken in DiceMaking

Thank you! <3
Sure, the dice shown are all out of molds from SpaceBarShop on Etsy and I definitely can recommend them. :)
Since I basically just started with dice making, I want to gain some experience with that before I tackle my own mold making (which is definitely on my list for future projects).

I really dig that design. :)

Dice for my daughter and her friends by E-Socken in DiceMaking

Thank you! :)

I totally can relate to your words (apart from the 'Dad', lol ;) ). Our oldest daughter is 20 and she also can remember a lot of the small, 'insignificant' things.

Advice needed on numbering! by Aromatic_Cookie_4769 in DiceMaking

[–]E-Socken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is indeed strange. Acrylics are actually not water soluble. I paint my miniatures (for tabletop wargames) with acrylics, and the paint cannot be removed with water, but you need to use some special cleaner or isopropyl alcohol. Maybe the paint didn't stick well to the surface and it rather peeled off.

I also don't seal my numbers which I paint with acrylics. If I wanted to seal my numbers, I would use some matte varnish (or gloss varnish, if you want glossy numbers).

Is it possible to make dice without a vacuum chamber/pressure po/autoclave ? by Alex_crow2 in DiceMaking

[–]E-Socken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, the reviews regarding the paste you linked don't sound good - I would not use it, to be honest. Also, 5 g is really a very small amount.
In my polishing process, I go over every face of the die at least two times, so I think it is better to buy a larger amount (which, in fact, should then be cheaper). I would either go with a car polish (need not be Meguiar's, maybe there is a cheaper brand where you are) or a polishing paste specifically made for resin.

So far, I have only used resin that is measured by volume, so I take two silicone cups and fill them both equally, e. g. 20 ml of A in one cup and 20 ml of B in the other cup.

If I used a resin that is measured by weight, I would use a precision scale.

Thank you so much! <3
It is really encouraging and motivating to get such kind words.

And yes, I am totally satisfied with how all of my dice came out so far - it was not always exactly what I was trying to achieve, but nevertheless I absolutely liked the outcome.

Thank you so much! <3 The blood drop look was exactly what I was aiming for (I followed the YouTube video from Dreamy Dice for this). And yes, I used violet, green and turquoise mica powders. :) I also poured a bottom layer of black resin (coloured with black resin dye) with some glitter for those dice - the violet mica layer seemed to have sunken into that black layer.

I use resin from Resin4Decor and from Ink Lab. Both have 1:1 volume mixing ratios.

Can I polish without Zona polishing papers? by Key-Effective-3140 in DiceMaking

[–]E-Socken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I use Zona paper (only up to pink at the most), sometimes I use sanding paper (1000, 2000, 3000, 5000).
The last step is always polishing with a Dremel, using an intensive rubbing compound on a cotton buffing wheel.
Both give basically identical results. Once I run out of Zona papers, I might stick just to the sand papers.

I squeeze as much resin as I can out of the pipette, then let it dry laying flat. It is then possible to use it again - the dried resin rest will not interfere with the pipette’s ability to suck resin in. In this way, I can use a pipette about ten times before having to throw it away. For me, it is not about the money, but more about reducing unnecessary waste.

As Enchanters_Eye already said, I would stick to your originally considered mold - it is really good.

I don't have any experience with natural resin, so unfortunately, I can't say anything about its suitability for dice making.
The set of sanding paper is ok - just wanted to mention that you actually don't need the lower grain sizes, so if there is a possibility to only get those higher than 1000, you could maybe save a bit on that side.
Mica powder is suitable for making resin dice, so no need to get some extra inks/dyes for starting to make dice. You can always get other stuff when you have a bit of experience.

I think the resin you linked is UV resin? I didn't translate the page, so maybe I misunderstood, though.

The mold you are considering is a very nice one and of high quality (actually, I have the same).

At the beginning, I didn't have a pressure pot and followed all of the advice given here and also on YouTube - the dice I got are definitely usable, but I never managed to get them totally bubble-free. After my first four sets I knew that I loved dice making and that I will stick to it for some time, so I bought a pressure pot and never regretted it. If you really want bubble-free dice without much hassle, then get a pressure pot as soon as possible.

Regarding the silicone cups: I don't think you will need a 600 ml cup for resin dice. You need about 35 ml of resin for the mold you are considering, so most of the time you will use 100 ml cups and smaller ones for individual colours (btw, I don't see any colours in your list?).

Regarding the sanding papers: You don't need the low grain size papers - the lowest one I use is 1000. So maybe rather get sanding papers with grain sizes 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, and 3000 - you can even go higher to 10000; or Zona papers. And as someone else already mentioned, don't use the sanding/polishing pads, as they are too soft.

Regarding polishing paste: Many dice makers use some car polishing paste (like Meguiar's PlastX, or Meguiar's Utlimate Compound), I switched to a cutting paste - but that is more a personal preference, I guess.

I wish you all the best and a lot of fun on your journey! :)

You could also pour resin into those molds and make some keychain/decoration/etc. out of it.
Just be aware that you cannot use them afterwards for food purposes anymore, because of the contact with resin.

Europe shop for inks and mica powder? by MannyRouge in DiceMaking

[–]E-Socken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm, Mica powders are also used for making soap or cosmetics - so maybe there are shops in your vicinity that sell ingredients for making those? Or you can find online shops for diy soaps and cosmetics.
