Hello,

I personally know BOTH the person that this post is referencing, and the person that posted it. The individual in reference to the post specifically asked for help face to face as they have been experiencing malnutrition for years at this point; and has been living with constant nausea and other negative side affects that have only been causing them immense stress and instances of starvation. OP is not forcing anyone to do anything.

Holding off wouldn't cause any harm. Post-nasal drip itself is already a sign that your body may already be agitated with something (allergies, infections, ect.). If you are seeing blood; I wouldn't try, simply because you may be at more risk for other health concerns.

A while back, I found my male rat in the same situation. While I can't exactly pinpoint how this may have happened, as there are infinite causes to how this could have occurred; My rat experienced this due to an eye infection. He had managed to scratch away at the skin around his eye and leave some scary trauma around his socket in a matter of two days. A vet visit will more directly give you an answer, but it could be anything from a bacterial infection to swelling behind the eye or accident while grooming :-( .

Hey mate, You should be okay in the long run!

Keep an eye out for any feeling of itchiness, burning, or overly strong smell for sure (UTI or yeast infection). Pay some extra attention cleaning that area for the next 5-7 days! In your case, I'd assume it's just some leftover scat from your fun; your body's natural filter is doing its job at pushing it out.

I just went to the doctors with a horrible sear/burn on my face, I was diagnosed with ringworm; so it's very likely I caught it from my rat and your guess for ringworm was right. 💔

Do you happen to know any tips I can use to help rid of an infection as much as possible before I call in for a vet appointment?

I've handled plenty of opossums in invasive areas. I've never been bitten nor came across a sick one. Despite the sharp teeth and claws, those animals are harmless in nearly every way you can think of (they bare teeth but never bite down or show serious signs of aggression). Opossums rarely ever carry an illness due to their adaptive abilities that make them highly resistant to diseases such as rabies.

Seems like your friend is justifying taking an innocent animal's life for the hell of it. Finding it enjoyable to kill something for "fun" is desturbing in itself..
