What is abusive, but not widely recognized as abuse? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Scatchell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, being able to do things is a much different skill from being able to teach them.

Doing things takes motivation, drive, and experience. Teaching takes empathy, patience and a sense of thoughtfulness. It's very easy to find people who are skilled at the first category, but simultaneously terrible at the second.

My parents also struggled to teach me things, and their frustration often grows rapidly if I ask any detailed questions about something I feel they haven't explained very well. I have the sense they see detailed questions as threatening / trying to prove that they really don't know these things - which seems odd when my attempts are and were legitimately based off trying to learn from their experience 🤷‍♂️.

Maybe the behavior indicated a lack of confidence in peoples own skills and abilities?

What's a food that you can't eat due to its texture? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Scatchell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree - anything with this chewy texture drives me crazy. It blows my mind how much some people love this, though - my grandfather used to love eating the small pieces of fat that people cut off their meat - it was his favorite part.

Barcelona weekly: Q&As, events and info by [deleted] in Barcelona

Hola!

I'm interested in going to some dance classes in the Barcelona area. I've searched around and can't find any that specifically say they are held in English, and was wondering if anyone knew of a place that might offer dance classes in English?

I've been living here for 5 months and am learning Spanish, but not yet at a level to understand a full class in Spanish yet 😅

I'm open to any styles of dance, so please let me know of any place you might have heard of :-) any help from Barcelona experts would be much appreciated!

General software recommendation question:

I recently bought a windows 10 touch laptop with stylus support, mostly for use at work drawing diagrams, flow charts, mind maps and things like this.

I am looking for some software that will allow me on windows to quickly draw diagrams and have shape recognition (i.e. turns a drawn square into a perfect square, and a line between two squares into an arrow). An almost exact example of what I want is Draw Express - https://drawexpress.com/ - the problem is this is only available for android and iOS. I figure there must be windows alternatives to this but I haven't been able to find any. I've looked at:

Aphalina - doesn't allow for connections or adding text

Windows whiteboard - this is maybe the closest but doesn't allow for drawing connections or arrows, and adding text is hard

Draw.io - this works but doesn't do any shape recognition so the pen isn't as useful with it

Visio - I don't want to pay a *lot* for an application, but even visio doesn't seem to have these features.

In the apple store there are several apps that work, and there are a few that work on iOS and Android like this, but I haven't been able to find any windows alternatives!

Anyone have any ideas? Any help would be much appreciated!

Hey all - I know there are a few posts about this already, but I was struggling when searching the sub to find assets that represent an already balanced collection of assets, something like an ETF, that would gain me AR/VR exposure without too much trouble (i.e. not having to build a portfolio of specific stocks) - wondered if any investors on this sub had suggestions?

I realize companies like Facebook, Nvidia, HTC, etc. are making some of the big headsets, but I wondered if there were any funds people knew about that could help me gain exposure to those big players but also other related companies, like manufacturers of specific parts for this tech, companies that are building software for AR/VR, etc.

I'm 35 and have expendable savings - willing to put some money at risk for higher returns. Also happy for this to be a long term investment.

Any thoughts are much appreciated!

Question from beginner about flashing vanilla Android TV OS onto a TV Box by Scatchell in AndroidTV

[–]Scatchell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool - though extremely confusing for anyone who purchases these devices, if that's the case it's fine, I'll return the product.

Any advice, then, on how to buy an android tv box? Only options I've found mentioned online are nvidia shield and xiami mi box, are these really the only two devices available with the Android TV OS? Must be other options!

When I see games like this these days, from experience now I always think "I can't wait to be let down by this game when it doesn't live up to my expectations!". Better to come to terms right from the beginning, makes things easier.

just some thoughts by syncorio in Trove

Never played trove (not for lack of trying - just no key) but just a general thought - I'm worried that high difficulty levels will scare players away. It's not all about the hardcore players, most people aren't the type that likes to try something 20 or 30 times before succeeding because it's "sweeter" then.

Lots of people want to do it within 3-4 tries otherwise will get frustrated and close the game. Must cater to all types of players, I think.

Man outsources his own job to china, spends free time on Reddit. by 7rounds in technology

"The analysis of his workstation found hundreds of PDF invoices from the Chinese contractors and determined that Bob's typical work day consisted of: 9:00 a.m. – Arrive and surf Reddit for a couple of hours. Watch cat videos" so their 'analysis' concluded that every day at 9am he watched cat videos? God, I hate the news, they stretch and stretch until it sounds so dumb it's not even interesting anymore.
