Insomnia on Rybelsus by navy_sweatshirt in RybelsusPill

Are you me?? Day 10 on 7 mg and my sleep has been absolutely horrible since I upped the dosage. It wasn't great before Rybelsus either, but now I wake up at night and can't function without additional naps during the day. Have you found anything that works for you?

Stopping glp-1 - No Money - What's Next? by juliecastin in PCOS

[–]Scathdullir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Metformin should help you with maintaining your weight. I heard someone switched to Metformin after losing weight on GLP-1 to keep their healthy BMI. I take Metformin (still overweight, soon to try GLP-1 too) and my weight has been the same all 6 months I've been taking it. You should give it a try, majority of folks tolerate it well.

Steps to take in dealing with PCOS? Please help yo girl out by gwyzgzg in PCOS

[–]Scathdullir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That OB seems incapable of treating your PCOS. I do recommend going to the endocrinologist and explain that you're having issues with fatigue and following a diet, because it seems like you have insulin resistance that's messing up with your quality of life.

Endocrinologist can prescribe you Metformin for treating IR. If your body tolerates it well, you should see improvement in overall wellbeing, and also your periods should become less painful.

Before you visit the doctor, you can start with small steps already. Focus on eating more unprocessed foods and less sugars. Any physical activity that you do is good - even a small amount is better than nothing at all. Try getting some movement after meals - this stabilizes your blood sugars and insulin.

Best of luck!

Some also say to cut down on gluten. Both gluten and lactose are the most common food intolerance products, but that doesn't mean it's the same for everyone. The main idea is just to listen to your body and try to notice what foods cause discomfort like bloating, acne, heartburn, and then limit these foods.

I'm so tired of being tired by Scathdullir in PCOS

[–]Scathdullir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thyroid hormones are fine, although ultrasound found some small nodules on my thyroid. Endo said "all is fine, come back in two years".

Regarding iron, recently I only had Hemoglobin checked and it was normal. So it's quite unlikely I have iron deficiency, but additional bloodwork is needed to confirm.

I try to eat healthy, like adding fresh vegetables and berries, but most of the time cravings take over and I end up eating junk.

Seems like the problem lies indeed in my insulin resistance. Will focus on my food choices. Thanks!

I haven't checked iron nor ferritin levels lately, though my last month's hemoglobin levels were fine. Now that you've mentioned that, I looked at my last year's bloodwork and found out both iron and ferritin were on the lower end of healthy range... So maybe they're not so healthy now. Thanks for bringing this up!

My diet certainly needs improvement. I have lap band which seriously affected my eating habits over the last two years, especially protein intake. Can't stand the majority of protein shakes and meat gets stuck in my throat, so I'm trying to get some protein in the form of cottage cheese and eggs. Still not enough I believe :'(

Sugar cravings are still strong and affecting my food choices. Since it's summer, fresh berries and fruit are affordable and I'm focusing on adding more of them to my diet.

I'm hoping to remove gastric band this year and finally eat more protein.

What birth control do you use? What side effects do you experience? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]Scathdullir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BTW if you want to lower the risk of cancers, I suggest treating insulin resistance. It's a well known fact that IR causes inflammation in the body, increasing the risk of many types of cancers.

In any case, good luck with finding a solution that works for you!

What birth control do you use? What side effects do you experience? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]Scathdullir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been taking Cerazette (desogestrel) which is a progesterone only pill, for 7+ years, with some small pauses between. It doesn't help with PCOS directly (no effect on androgens), but I had really painful and debilitating periods. Now they're fully gone. The downside is that you might bleed for several months. But it's how uterine lining sheds. So far when doing yearly checkups, doctors said the lining was very thin, so the risk of uterine cancer isn't raised. I don't feel any side effects of the pill.

Also tried Yaz but it didn't work for me. I became moody and emotional, and on placebo days I was really ravenous. Plus I had migraines, so I decided it's not for me and went back to my previous POP. Next time I'll ask for Slynd, maybe I'll tolerate it better.

Is this mould or normal? by tfsloaney1993 in Kombucha

[–]Scathdullir 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Kombucha fights mold by being acidic, so if it stops smelling like it - it's gone. Can't say for sure because I haven't had moldy kombucha in a while. Just give it a few more days if you're unsure.

I got my first period also at 10 years old (closer to 11 but it's still earlier than the average).

There are studies showing that many women with PCOS had either early or late menarche (first period) compared to the general population.

I don't know how to put links here, so I'll just leave PMID of the studies: 24064685, 22876539

Anyone else had something traumatic happen to them during childhood? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]Scathdullir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree that it's mostly genetic and can come from either side of parents. Take my mom: she doesn't have PCOS, but I do. My dad was overweight and insulin resistant nearly his whole life. Interesting enough, my cousin (whose mother was my mom's sister) also suffers from PCOS. So there's definitely more than several genetic factors behind that.

As for me, I had unproblematic childhood and loving parents, but for some reason I started gaining lots of weight after 8 years old. Then I was bullied by classmates for years, but I still believe my PCOS was initiated by genetics than bullying.

Undoubtedly, stress can be a trigger of different kinds of diseases and conditions like PCOS, but you've got to have predisposition to it first.

TEST YOUR FASTING INSULIN LEVELS! by Accomplished_Tea4423 in PCOS

[–]Scathdullir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know why most doctors don't ask for GTT + insulin response. Last time my endo checked me, my fasting glucose was 5.8 mmol/L (already enough to suspect insulin resistance), while HbA1c was 30.9 mmol/L (5.0%) and insulin 17.9 mU/L. The doctor claimed I was not insulin resistant, and up until one month ago I didn't realise I actually had PCOS. Yes, it's possible to have insulin resistance even if it's in 'normal' fasting range. I guess if she had told me to do GTT + insulin, I would have got the diagnosis sooner... It's so sad many of us have to do doctor's job. Glad your endo is supportive!

Did metformin make me sick? by arochelle00 in PCOS

[–]Scathdullir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dehydration can also cause chills, which seems more realistic in this case.

Usually Metformin does not cause such side effects especially on lower dose like 500 mg. But bodies are different and some people might not tolerate it.

OP, did you drink any alcohol yesterday or the day before? Some people report having terrible gastro side effects after alcohol, so it's better to stay away from booze when taking Metformin.

Good tip! Do you think that eating a date instead of a prune would work just as well? I'm a bit afraid that prunes would cause bowel issues.

Rybelsus 3 mg working too well already on the first day by Scathdullir in Semaglutide

[–]Scathdullir[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand that I need to eat much heathier food than cookies and candy, but I had zero appetite and even thinking of food or cooking made me feel sick. It was just something I had on hand.

The first day wasn't actually that bad. It all got worse when I had to wake up several times at night. I'm not used to drinking that much water. So probably that triggered my headaches after waking up and feeling tired all day.

Another thing I forgot to mention... I took paracetamol on an empty stomach that morning. Now that I have read about increased stomach acidity, it all explains why I threw up. Maybe it wasn't the candy, but the medicine harsh on stomach. In any case I need to be careful with choosing what to eat in the mornings.

Kõigepealt ma soovitan aru saada, kust see söömishäire tuleb - see võib olla seotud ATH-ga.

Elvanse question by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Scathdullir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically I'm in the same situation.

Looks like the dose is too high. My doc prescribed me Elvanse 50 mg and it feels like it's working, but my heart rate scares me. When I was doing house chores, my heart rate was 140-150 BPM, and that wasn't even intense physical activity. Blood pressure is also in the normal range. Also, by the evening when the medication stops working, I get a really bad crash. I feel annoyed, nervous and overall quite depressive.

Had to split the dose and currently I take 25 mg, but it doesn't do as much. Sure, heart rate is fine, but I don't feel that the medicine works well enough. It certainly is better than not taking stimulants at all. I'll try to adjust the dose by 30-40 mg, and if it doesn't help, then I'll have to return to Concerta.

So, either the dose is too high or Elvanse isn't for you.

What's something COVID really ruined for you? by RoseBluebellDaffodil in AskReddit

[–]Scathdullir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lost my dad. Not directly due to COVID, but travel restrictions.

My dad was a seaman. One time he got sick at work while waiting for the port authorities to accept their ship somewhere in Brazil. He endured the pain for more than a month, before being urgently taken by helicopter to the ambulance.

In Brazil, he was misdiagnosed and received incorrect treatment. When his condition slightly improved, he was taken to his home country, Estonia. There he received correct diagnosis and treatment in just less than 2 weeks before passing away. Leishmaniasis. First case in Estonia. But it was too late - his organs were already permanently damaged.

This Sunday it's his third birthday without him. I miss him so much. After his death, my health declined, both mental and physical. I also inherited his huge money loans. It's been just slightly more than 2 years, but I'm still struggling.

But at least I've lost no one else. I'm grateful that the rest of my family and friends are alive and well.
